To be a Saint
A week ago today, my friend Sarah was here and together we were hastily assembling a couple of saints’ costumes for that evening’s dress rehearsal.Correction: I was hastily telling her the ideas I envisioned, and she was calmly…efficiently…and beautifully creating them.Thank the good Lord for gifted friends, eh?Yes, it was time for my homeschool … [Read more...]

Prayers for Barbara
Please intercede for Barbara (Praying for Grace) today. I'll let her tell the story (and it really is one heck of a story), but until she is able to do so, please pray for her health and recovery.Ad Jesum per Mariam,Updated to Add: Barbara’s posted her story and it’s a doozy! Best of all, she’s well enough to be writing again, and judging from her … [Read more...]
Druthers
Of all the interesting things I could think to do with $3,000, installing a new furnace is not one of them.Replacing my dingy kitchen linoleum and the worn out carpet in the family room? That would be a pleasure for me to tend to.Exchanging my unpredictable old stove with a brand new gas range? Totally fun, the stuff of dreams.Investing in another … [Read more...]
Baby Update
Last night my husband and I shooed the children into bed and sat down to watch a movie. (It was an okay film. I don’t necessarily recommend it.) At one point we had to pause the DVD to comfort a child who woke up frightened. While John was upstairs doing this, (my husband’s very good at comforting 4-year-olds), I was downstairs immersed in … [Read more...]
Gang’s All Here
Or at least, they were when this photo was taken. My husband was setting up the tripod when I made a mad dash upstairs to change. “You can’t leave!” he hollered, but I was back in a flash minus the oversize t-shirt and baggy sweats. I am sadly lacking in humility, you see, though my lack of make-up should count for something.Anyway, my friend and … [Read more...]
Indebted
Our friends from Anchorage leave today. The house has been a flurry of sounds and shoes and over-stimulated puppy. Clothes, bedding, and bodies spill forth from every corner. We have laughed uproariously and eaten very well, with evening meals that started at 7:00 and went on for hours. We have had as many heart-to-hearts as we could fit into the … [Read more...]
In this Month of the Rosary
Sarah of Just Another Day of Catholic Pondering is hosting a beautiful carnival today in honor of the rosary.I do not doubt but that one of my favorite saints is smiling! The carnival takes place at Behold Your Mother, and is an absolutely lovely collection of stories and meditations. The Gift of Godchildren
First off, I’d like to thank you for your much-appreciated prayers last evening. I had such a nice time getting together with this group of women, and I felt the presence of God throughout it all—from my needing to call my cousins for directions after my Mapquest printout failed me (my cousin Dave is amazing—he talked me through it saying things … [Read more...]
