got milk? Magic Straws: A Review & Giveaway

September 26, 2012 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Give-Aways, Minnesota Me, Reviews 47 Comments

Got kids? Got milk? Then have I got a fun review for you.

got milk? Magic Straws are disposable straws that come in a variety of flavors. Each straw is filled with tiny flavor beads that dissolve as you sip your milk through the straw.

Each straw has only 17 calories and 4 grams of sugar, which, if you’ve done the research, is much less sugar than most flavored add-ins.

Magic Straws V

They are all-natural, have no preservatives, and (according to their website) are allergy-free. How do I know all this? Easy! We were sent a bunch to try out & review!

Sometimes I really love my job.

Okay, so blogging isn’t my job, necessarily, but there have definitely been a perk or two.

(Or three. Or three hundred. I lose count.)

Magic Straws II

We were sent four packets with four different flavors—Strawberry Banana, Wild Berry, Cinnamon Roll, and Neapolitan. My ever-helpful eldest daughter Cate then drew up a graph to chart the family’s reactions.

The consensus?

Magic Straws IV

Magic Straws III

“Great!” said the girls;

“Fine,” said the dad;

And “Good, but you have to suck pretty hard” from the boys. (What can I say? They’re teenagers.)

My thought was that they are pretty yummy, but the flavor can be subtle with a few intense bursts. I think this is due to the reduced sugar and that fact that we’ve gotten used to products full of high fructose corn syrup, so I’m not complaining at all about the subtle flavor.

The fact is, they’re a fun, yummy and fairly healthful way to get your kids to drink milk, and for that reason we give them a big thumb’s-up.

Magic Straws I

Now here’s the fun-for-you part of this post. I have two gift packages of got milk? Magic Straws to give away. Each gift package contains five packets of five different flavors for a total of 30 straws in each package.

Got kids? Got milk? Well, my friend, you’re good to go.

Oh, and these aren’t your average, every-day kind of flavors!  We’re talking Strawberry Banana, Cookies & Cream, Cinnamon Roll and Cotton Candy. (My girls are most disappointed about not getting to try the cotton candy flavor. I’ve talked to them about selflessness and detachment and whatnot. Doesn’t matter. They’re still filled with regret.)

All you need to do is leave a comment on this post, telling me…hmm…how about your favorite thing to bake in the Fall? Because these straws would be the perfect accompaniment to some freshly baked cookies.

Or muffins…or pie…or crumb cake…or yum.

I will pick two winners on Monday morning. Also, you can earn another entry if you “like” the Got Milk? Magic Straws Facebook page. Just come back over here to tell me you’ve done so.

And that’s it! Good luck, God bless and go try some got milk? Magic Straws! I’m pretty sure they’re available everywhere.

    Oh my goodness! Our 4 yr old is at the point now that she doesnt want to leave walmart without a package of these straws! We dont have all those cool flavors though. We would love to win a package to go with…lets see…not pie. I HATE to make pie. How about, apple crisp or cupcakes or I know,pumpkin chocolate chip cookies! Thanks for offering the chance to win. Have a blessed day! trish

    I need some to go with the pan of oat flour brownies I seem to be finishing alone! I wonder what aisle they are in at the store? You know men plan out grocery stores and things are never where the should be! 😉

    I can not wait to get my baking hands into some upside-down pumpkin pie. the first layer is similar to pie, but fluffier texture. then plain ol' yellow cake mix with drizzled butter and chopped pecans. mmmmmmmm. now you'll have to excuse me while hit the treadmill ;-p

    Favorite fall thing to bake – pumpkin bars – without a doubt! But only with a THICK layer of cream cheese frosting on top. My kids get these Got Milk straws as a treat about twice a year, and they LOVE them. My only complaint is that I have to let my 2 year old drink out of a real cup when we have them, thus resulting in spilled milk! 🙂 I love the pics of your kids drinking out of them! Tell your girls if I win, they can have our cotton candy straws…my kids don't like cotton candy!

    I love to bake hermit bars. They're basically just flour and raisins and spices and lots of crisco, but they taste amazing! And the smell is even better. 🙂

    I'm intrigued now. If Minnesota Mom's kids like these then maybe my first reaction when I see them at the store shouldn't be, "ew". I think I assumed they were not any different from the sugar/hfcs loaded stuff.

    We have two apple trees that produced this year and the family has been thrilled that I've gone out of my comfort zone and baked two apple pies in the past week. Pies are not usually my thing. My favorite baked good in the fall is chocolate chip pumpkin muffins, but they are equally as yummy with cinnamon chips. Yum!

    What fun! My kids would like to win some of these, even though they don't really like milk, so I've been leary to buy some. Thanks Margaret!

    I tend to make tons of banana bread, but I guess that's a year round thing. In the fall, I like to make a Swedish apple pie, so yummy without the trouble of a crust. http://www.food.com/recipe/swedish-apple-pie-44729

    Apple dumplings. A few years ago we started a tradition that after an apple picking adventure we'd have apple dumplings on top of vanilla ice cream with a dollop of whipped cream for supper that night. Mmmm. We might have to go apple picking this weekend…..

    Ummm…, hello?!….apple pie!!! My kiddos have wanted to try these straws but I have frugally told them that they are too much money to spend on just to drink their milk, which they have to do anyway. So, if we win, you will have some very happy godchildren and godchildren siblings to thank you. Also, Evelyn loved the card and told me to say thank you for the money. She's was playing the song over and over until her brothers started to revolt.
