It’s the 1st of July!

July 1, 2013 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Just Me, Minnesota Me, Motherhood 12 Comments

…and we’d best enjoy it, especially since it’s the only  full month of summer we get before being assailed by back-to-school ads.

Thank you but no thank you. I am a Minnesotan, after all. We get, like, two days of summer as it is.

In any case.  I loved flipping the calendar this morning and seeing the happy scene (shown on the left). I’m weird that way—I love my calendars. So much promise! So much potential! So many mosquitoes on a muggy summer night!

It’s all good, right?

And when it’s not all good, well, that’s just God trying to tell us something.

So I posted this photo of Francis on Facebook:

Nicky 6 Months Wall Photo

…and sweet Jamie demanded requested that I post more photos.

Here you go, Jamesters!  I know you know it’s a crazy busy life…but it’s a brand new month and I’m loving that.

Nickerdoodles on a Monday Morning

This kid is cute but seriously demanding. Seriously! He is conked out in the backpack as I type. I know I KNOW that these babies don’t keep and that I really shouldn’t mind the dust & the dirt & the sticky floors…

So I won’t! Okay, I will! But I’ll say that I don’t so when you come, you’re not scandalized!

Love me. Ignore my floors.

Happy 4th of July in three days, everyone! We have family coming later this week (my husband’s sister & her family, his dad, his aunt & uncle) and we’re excited as pie about that. Speaking of which, I haven’t finished my entire menu but will be making this killer dessert  for sure.  My husband’s also running a half-marathon on the 4th (better him than me) so that’s where I’ll be…with bells on and a demanding baby on my back.

How about you? What are you doing/making/baking?

The (demanding) baby and I would love to hear.

      Thanks, Caroline. 🙂

It's a Lang calendar featuring the art of Susan Winget. I get one every year at Barnes & Noble. (Bonus points for waiting until after the 1st of the year. They're half-price at that point.)

Look at that gorgeous grin! What a darling child.

It's winter here, so I'm doing a lot of … well, to be honest, alot of sitting around, clutching a hot water bottle, and complaining about the cold.

So, can you imagine what my house looks like???? It's getting better, especially since the priest and our seminarian deacon are coming over for dinner in two days! YIKES! Talk about your half marathon (of cleaning!!)
The hubby and two oldest kids are going to IA to pick up Grandma and Grandpa for, what they are saying, is their last trip up here. They are in their mid 80's and just feel they can't do the trip again. So sad. We'll be just enjoying them here as much as we can. They will bring them back to IA on Sunday. I will be getting ready for them, too.

Have a great July! I am already starting to plan for the next school year and am giddy!

He is adorable! I understand that whole demanding/enjoying/really? I just want to take a shower phase!

I should really reread before hitting publish 😉

Just have to tell you…my oldest and youngest were so much more demanding than the others…only mommy will do most of the time! But, now my "little" 19 month old is probably my most independent child. When she wants me, no one can take my place. But those times are fewer and fewer. Good and sad.

    Enjoy the FOURTH

I had a bit of cleaning to come home to, but the big Welcome Home banner made up for it. My floors rival yours about now, even without a baby dropping banana bits that smoosh between the gaps! (and yes, your personality makes it quite easy to love you and ignore your floors)

My in-laws have come to expect my spinach, strawberry, blueberry, chicken salad with homemade dressing. Red and blue are represented, it's cool & healthy, and relatively safe on the buffet table for a few hours.

    Today's task – picking strawberries!

I have Francis' demanding BFF here in PA . . . too bad we can't get these two boys together to distract each other while we do something – anything! – with 2 hands and nothing strapped on to us!

Hi Margaret – our oldest son Isaac is doing the "Red, White and Boom", is that the same one? Look for # 2653. We will hopefully have J. out of the hosp. by then. Can't go… take pictures!

Awwwwwwww, just for me? (I want more) What floor? (bet mine is worse)

I have a 18 month old that has just this week, July 1st actually learned how to climb the chairs…which means he can reach the table, the counter, (he pushes the chairs), the computer, and the school room table (which is full of markers that he loves to take the lids off of) (he might have markered up legs) He also loves to push the buttons on the dishwasher and the washer and dryer. I've had to re a few things. Like the folded laundry on the table in the office, yep, you guessed it, there was a chair in there.

4th of July? We have a unicycler and Pro life Kids Club walkers in the parade! My one tip (which I'll have to blog about) is make my Jamie recipe of frozen strawberries (unsweetened) and diet 7-up in the blender (add a little sweet and low or whatever to sweeten if you need to) and there you have refreshing, light, (as in low cal) and bright RED for the 4th of July!!

Have a great time with family!!
    God bless.
    You spoil me.
