I happen to love St. Benedict. Maybe it’s the story of him and his twin sister, St. Scholastica. You know the one, right? They had gotten together for their annual visit and, when evening fell and it was time for St. Benedict and his monks to leave, Scholastica beseeched him not to go.
“I have to go, sister,” he informed her. “It’s our rule.”
She said nothing, merely folded her hands and looked down at her lap quietly.
“Are you praying?!” he demanded.
She was. It stormed. He didn’t go.
We managed to all make it to Mass this morning—one, because it’s my husband’s mother’s birthday today (Happy birthday, Grandma Cathy!) and we wanted to pray for her intentions; and two, it’s the feast of good St. Benedict.
And I love St. Benedict.
On the way home, I thought about what I might make for a little treat…something…something…to do with St. Benedict…and remembered a snack I had been served in France.
Chocolate croissants.
Fresh from the pâtisserie.
“Well,” I thought, “St. Benedict is the patron saint of Europe…and anything chocolate is always good…”
George agrees.
Note: I made these by slicing up some Sam’s Club croissants, adding a sprinkle of chocolate chips and heating them. In hindsight, Nutella would have worked even better…but I don’t have Nutella and I did have chocolate chips.
Another note: this treat would be good for any European saint.
Yet another note (the last one, I promise): There’s a great worksheet on the St. Benedict here, with the answers on another website over here.
Off to the beach now, for the feast! (My children are waiting most impatiently.)

Yum! Wish we had some of those on hand to celebrate Ben's feast day. We didn't make it to Mass but went to the nature center and saw a bunch of animals, which, being a three year old boy who thinks that the singing in church takes too long, he probably enjoyed more. Happy feast day, Margaret.

OK, now that I've seen that picture for a second time, I can't help but comment. Don't you have grocery bags? 🙂
Not at all worried about "drama" here. But praying that everything will work out for you.

It was a trip to Sam's, Tracy, (which you probably KNEW :), and YES, I have a couple of those recyclable bags that I always manage to leave behind in whichever vehicle I'm not using.
Story of my LIFE.
