I know all you Southerners think we Yankees are crazy…
…and I would probably agree.
Still, if we’re gonna inhabit this tundra, we may as well make the most of it.
Frozen extremities notwithstanding.
And here’s who we are:
A bunch of crazies from Minnesota, joining a bunch of other crazies from who knows where.
It was fun! And cold! And fun!
At one point, my oldest son casually snapped off an icicle. My husband rebuked him on behalf of the “ten thousand people who would be seeing the ice caves after us.”
“Leave no trace, punk,” he added with a grin.
Good advice from one (graying) Scout to another.
Not quite sure what Angela is doing in that photo. She may have been getting dragged off by a troll.
(Poor judgement on the part of the troll.)
(How could he possibly know who he’s dealing with?)
Even for Northerners, these cliffs and caves were quite unlike anything we’d seen…
…and the view across the lake was beautiful. I remarked to the kids on the way back to the van that if God went to so much trouble to make this sinful world so pretty, imagine–just imagine!–what our heavenly home will be like.
We can’t imagine.
So fun! I went to college in Ashland, I miss it up there, it's so beautiful.
I had to Google Ashland (I'm embarrassed to say) and I can see why these pictures remind you of college. These are your old stomping grounds! : )
Assuming…you went to Northland, right?
Oh, thank you for sharing pictures with us!! How beautiful. (the ice and your words)
How far was that from where you are?
Where is the baby?
What a great memory!!
It's about a 4-hour drive from the Cities, Jamie. We left our two little men home with friends–George's godparents, actually.
And it IS a great memory. I didn't think I would have as much fun as I did, but of course we moms always look at the work involved… : )
That is absolutely beautiful. However, my feet get cold just thinking about it.
"if God went to so much trouble to make this sinful world so pretty, imagine–just imagine!–what our heavenly home will be like." I really love this line.
Actually, Betsy, I was toasty warm! Those Land's End boots really do the trick.
PS. Hug that baby for me!!
Looks beautiful for sure! But I must say, seeing the pictures of them in the small spaces makes me hyperventilate a little…
That looks like so much fun! And this will stay with me a very long time : I remarked to the kids on the way back to the van that if God went to so much trouble to make this sinful world so pretty, imagine–just imagine!–what our heavenly home will be like.
What a fun and memorable adventure! If Maria were a little older, I'd be tempted to take her up north to experience these extraordinary, Seuss-like caves.
You guys may be crazy but you're also the best! š
Those pictures look great!
Love the Angela-eating-troll picture. Hmmm…troll eating Angela, and you're just standing there? š
"Leave no trace, punk"- Ha! Love it.
I'm both envious and in awe of your bravery! Climbing around *inside* those caves freaks me out a little. Walking on water sounds a little fun, but cold. How cold was it??? I can't imagine being in the frigid cold *and* have to hike a couple of miles. brrrrr.
Stark Raving, you are! How do those even form, anyway?
Charlotte in OK
Yep. Certifiable you are! But I love you, Yankee Friend!
