Subtitled: When Bad Behavior Leads to Good Cooking
Camille evidently decided that tonight’s leftover spaghetti sauce needed revamping. She pushed a stool over to the counter and poured a bunch of half and half into the container.*
Which looked really gross when I first found it.
And which reminded me of a recipe I once came across, a sort of sauce bolognaise a la creme et vodka.
Here’s the recipe.
Don’t you just love the name of it?
And doesn’t it sound fairly delicious? Here’s keeping my culinary fingers crossed and my eyes on my toddler for the rest of the evening!
Although….it might be interesting to see what she came up with for dessert.
Ed. note: The local coffee drinker in this story would do well to put the half & half back into the refridgerator once she was done it.

Half and half is the best in coffee. However when I make espresso I find that it doesn’t froth as nicely as milk. (We only drink whole around here!) Just checking in! š
Jen says
Oh my…that looks so good. Somehow the pancakes we are having tonight just might not cut it.

On the contrary, Jen; I love having breakfast for supper!

Thanks for the link to the recipe. When I lived in New Jersey, I had friends make it for me all the time, but I never got the recipe. Yes, I do like the name…I’ll have to share the link with some single friends of mine.

For the record, Michelle: you can spice up any old spaghetti sauce (store bought is fine) with a touch of cream & vodka. Perhaps I’ll post my recipe on my other blog–it’s one of my favorite meals!

What are good substitutes for alcohol in recipes? My husband is in recovery 17+ years. long before we met!(he is a LADC) So no alcohol in this household. I know the alcohol is supposed to cook away, he’s not so sure and doesn’t want to risk that. Just curious if anyone knows…
minnesotamom says
Jamie: you don’t need to use vodka. Try a little balsamic vinegar instead! And I always add a tablespoon or two of sugar to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes.
I’ll post my recipe soon.
PS. What is an LADC?
Alice says
I never would have thought of this, but it sounds great.

That looks yummy. Now maybe I can put to use the many VODKA bottles that sit up in my cabinet above the rerigerator. We are just not vodka drinkers and we seem to have acquired many bottles as holiday gifts over the years.
I have put white/red wine/cream into sauces. I do hope that I cook it long enough to burn off the alcohol. None of my children ever seemed to show any stange effects š
I am also quite embarassed for guessing you were from England. I guess I see that you write “Mum” for your mother and I thought maybe you were not from the US. OOPS!
