“Snowflake”: Lovely, Lyrical, Simply Great

January 20, 2015 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Give-Aways, Minnesota Me 21 Comments

(a review and a give-away)

(just for you)

If you’re local and want to plan a fun outing…

I highly recommend going to see Snowflake.

We did. See?

I know it’s a blurry selfie and all, but that was us. I promise!

I’m never sure about trips to the theater because, well, some of my kids can be a little squirmy. I can assure you that Snowflake will capture and hold their attention.

It’s magical, really, the way he does it.

Just one actor…

And a bunch of props…

And for 65 minutes, he commands the stage.

Honestly, I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to a children’s production. I don’t like shows that are over-the-top silly, and I wondered (when I saw the photos) if this show might be too much. It wasn’t. It was sweet and endearing and it made us sigh.

(It was just my daughter and me.)

(Perfection. A perfect outing.)

 * * *

Now here’s the happy news for YOU: I have a 4-pack of tickets to share! Granted, you probably can’t fly in from…Pittsburgh or something, but if you’re local, here’s your chance.  Leave a comment saying if you’ve been to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts before (it’s attached, you see, to Children’s Theatre), and if you have, what’s your favorite thing to see?

I’ll tell you what one of ours is:

Or rather, I’ll let the picture tell you.

Comments will close at midnight on Wednesday, then I’ll announce the winner on Thursday morning.  Please enter the give-away! If you don’t, you can’t win, and I want you to!

Good luck and God bless you,

Our family went to the Minneapolis Institute of Art for the first time last year to celebrate Mother's Day. Our favorite was the very VERY old pottery. Thanks!

I would love these tickets, Margaret! The show looks delightful! I haven't been to the MIA in many years; since high school, I think … So, I honestly can't remember anything! I guess that means I need to go back … and soon!

Our most recent visit was going on five years ago, at a brunch and party hosted there by Bremer Bank, where my husband worked at the time. I am reminded of my love of Art History in HS and college and enjoy paintings by some of my favorite artists. Because it's a bit of a drive into MPLS we don't go often enough. My husband and I have never been to the Children's Theater and this seems like a great event for this time of year! We would purchase another ticket so our three youngest could go with us . . . .

Haven't been there in so many years, but liked the early Christian art at that time. As I recall, it was a home schooling field trip, and we had to get past the nudes to get to the focus of our outing…

My 7year old and I visited this past fall and our favorite was the sun sculpture as well. We have never been to the theater before, it looked like you two ladies had fun.

It has been 2 years since I've been to the MIA without children (1 year ago I went with youngins) and I need to get back. I haven't been to the Children's Theater since I was a child myself. (My poor deprived children ;)) I would love to get them to a production there! I was in awe of the Veiled Lady when I was at MIA 2 years ago: http://www2.artsmia.org/blogs/blog/2011/04/06/face-to-face-veiled-lady/

When I was young I loved the period rooms. Every single field trip that was what I drew afterwards. Now I have an appreciation for scupltures and I always love the touring exhibits. I have such fond memories of CTC as well. I vividly remember my first play and the subsequent ones as field trips. Inspired my educational path that's for sure.

Van Gogh and Gauguin are my go-tos. The color and expression, their hearts are on display.

We have so many wonderful memories at CTC! My favorite thing at MIA is the period rooms at holiday time. I'm excited to visit during their big anniversary this year.

Thanks for the encouragement to enter! I'm on maternity leave through March so I'm sure I could find some friends and make this a play date! The MIA is great! Lots of memories from elementary school art class field trips there!

We went there once, when I was pregnant, so that must have been 4 years ago now… I too loved those glass sculptures. Not sure if this is a show a 3.5 year old would enjoy, if so, enter me. Otherwise I could give them my slightly older niece.

I haven't been to the MIA in years! I like it so much. I seem to remember the Chinese furniture being my favorite.

I haven't been to the MIA in a very long time, this is a great reminder to check it out. I would love to take my niece to this show, she is a huge fan of live theater. Plus, as a new mom, I'd love the chance to get out myself. šŸ™‚ Erin

As a life long resident of MN I don't know if I've ever been to MIA. I didn't even know they did theater. How fun! Pick me, pick me! šŸ™‚
