Notes from Home

On the Passage of Time, as per Angela

“Once,” she began, “A long, long time ago…longer than Mass…when we were at camp this summer…”

I’ll bet I’m not the only parent whose kids want to go to daily Mass, but only if “It’s a short one.”

On Life imitating Art, or in this case, Ancient History

We were discussing the Greeks when the subject of the Rosetta Stone came up.

“That’s a blog!” one of the kids exclaimed.

My friend Michelle will be pleased to note she’s made the annals of our home’s history.

On Not Gathering Moss

Anthony is gearing up towards mobility. You can’t lay him on the couch because he’ll roll off it. (Don’t ask me how I know this.) Meanwhile, he remains—to my knowledge—the world’s smiliest baby.

Smiley

This despite rolling off couches.

On Not Eating Homemade Pies and Cakes

We are still researching a replacement for our broken stove. We are leaning (great big grin) towards a gas range.

Meanwhile, we are eating soup.

Forever yours in the pursuit of domestic tranquility,

Well, now that you might be getting a gas stove I do have a recommendation to make. We have this stove and I absolutely love it! It has a convection oven with three racks, I put 9 pans of cinnamon rolls in there at the same time and they came out perfectly evenly baked.

Also, if you're looking at any stoves that are carried by Sears, they're having Friends and Family night this coming Sunday. Usually they appliance range from an extra 10-20% off of their sale prices. If you go in to look ahead of time they should be able to tell you how much it would cost if you purchase it Sunday evening.

That Angela could be one of my children. Too funny. Thanks for sharing that one. I hope you get your gas range. I didn't when we replaced mine and I've been kicking myself ever since. It's really an investment, don't you think? 😉

Oh thank goodness! I thought it was only my heathen children who ask "is it the short one?" or "is it the one with songs?" come Mass time. 🙂

My daughter gives me the "is that going on your blog?" occasionally too. ha. They know us too well!

We had to get a new range in a hurry when we had a remodeling disaster – roof was off when we had one of those "storms of the century" rainstorms. Miraculously, we found the same (old) model of double ovens, but gas instead of electric, at an appliance outlet. I love it. SInce then I've heard that gas for the burners, electric for the oven, is a good combo – don't know where to find that, tho.

Regarding the stove, I am a gas convert and will never turn back. In fact, I have told my husband that if we move, an electric stove would be a deal breaker…no gas, no buy.

I wanted to let you know that Warner Stellian is having a huge warehouse event this weekend in St. Paul. They mentioned gas stoves as low as $399…

Oh, and Anthony is so adorable!

That Angela! My kids say the same thing to me, in fact, we've abbreviated to SM or LM. They are much more willing to go to the SM!!!

My kids will sometimes compare the length of times of things to how long Mass is. So, you know, if something is going to be 45 minutes, they'll say, "So, it's going to be a little bit shorter than Mass, right?" LOL

(sigh) I guess I'm stuck with that blog name then. There are many days I hate it. What idiot would name their blog after the largest online language program out there?

I really prefer gas stoves, so I hope your dreams come true.

Go for the gas range. I love cooking on gas. If you do, my recommendations are go basic- not high tech. My MIL was moving out of her house so I got her new (less than 2 years old at the time) very expensive top of the line all sorts of electronic stuff on it gas stove. I've had more troubles with that bugger than any other gas stove I've had. Now my bottom of the line cheap as I could find gas stove that I gave away to a single mom, never caused me problems. I love(d) that stove. It didn't even have a clock/timer on it. You could cook, bake, or broil with it, that was it (and that is all I need).
