Praying for Heather

May 3, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Prayer Leave a Comment

When my friend Tina was diagnosed with colon cancer, she went through all of her prayer books to find a handful of the very best devotions to sustain her. After her surgery, she said that she was so low she couldn’t even pray them; at that point, her husband did.

Today we need to pray for Heather, the mother of three and the devoted wife of one, who is just down the road from me at Mayo Hospital being operated on for the removal of a brain tumor. To read about her tremendous courage and faith, click on the “Praying for Heather” button at the top of my sidebar.

The Mystical Body of Christ is hard at work today! I would like to share one of my friend Tina’s favorite prayers; it has become one of mine, as well:

Complete Trust in God

Do not look forward to the trials and crosses of this life with dread and fear. Rather, look to them with full confidence that, as they arise, God, to Whom you belong, will deliver you from them.

He has guided and guarded you thus far in life. Do you but hold fast to His dear hand and He will lead you safely through all trials. Whenever you cannot stand, He will carry you lovingly in His arms.

Do not look forward t o what may happen tomorrow. The same Eternal Father Who cares for you today will take good care of you tomorrow and every day of your life. Either He will shield you from suffering or He will give you the unfailing strength to bear it.

Be at peace then and put aside all useless thoughts, vain dreads and anxious imaginations.

St. Francis de Sales

*Thank you, Alice, for the candle.
