What’s it mean to be in AHG?

October 6, 2011 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, My Girls 8 Comments

AHG stand for American Heritage Girls. I’ve got three…and couldn’t be more pleased.

I love the patriotism.

Love the reverence.

And I love love LOVE the uniforms!

It’s a red, white & blue thing, I think, and plus I’m a great big fan of earning badges.

(My Boy Scouts got me trained that way.)

These pictures are from last Saturday’s “Joining Ceremony.” The girls are new to the troop and new to AHG in general, so they spent four hours learning the what’s what of the group–the oath, the creed, the history…

Four hours, you think? They must have gotten bored.

They managed to keep it pretty interesting.

Is there anything cuter than little girls playing telephone?

I maintain that there simply isn’t.

Cuteness!

Long story post short: If you’re thinking your girls need a scout-type program that reflects the Christian values you hold dear…

My American Heritage Girls
I’ll tell ya, I think I’ve got one.

My daughter began AHG last year with a brand new troop at our parish. We absolutely love it, for all the reasons you said in your post. I can't think of a better environment for our daughters to learn to be women of integrity. AHG is such an incredible program!

In Australia, we have the Girl Guide movement which I guess is very similar to the AHG but AHG looks like fun and I love the creed the lady is holding up.

Just wondering how you found a troop near to you? Live in a suburb in the twin cities. My girls are not quite old enough, but one will be next year. Thanks, Ann

I'm so jealous! That looks amazing. Maybe I'll have to look in to it after I get through with our small group of Little Flowers.

    Thanks for sharing it Margaret!

Ah, I'm so glad you love it! I had to show my American Heritage Girls your American Heritage Girls. 🙂

At the risk of opening a Pandora's box, can you tell me the difference between this group and the Girl Scouts? I don't have girls (yet!) and am a long way from my own scouting days, so I'm not familiar with this group or why one would choose it over the Girl Scouts? Thanks!

I apologize for taking so long to get back to your question, motheringspirit. We chose American Heritage Girls over Girl Scouts for many reasons, most of which can be found in this article.
