…for the gift of my back-to-back birthday girls, who knew Mom’s been busy and agreed to share a birthday party!
They even agreed to share a cake, which, when you think about it, is asking quite a lot of them.
(I am not above asking a lot of my girls.)
(I figure it builds character.)
Giving thanks for easy cake themes–in this case, “snowflakes” and “horses.”
Really giving thanks for that one.
(Please pardon the background in the above photo. I added the final touches in the laundry room so that my little hens would be surprised.)
(Now you know that we like Hefty.)
(Not to mention Reeses Puffs.)
For all you foodies, it was an angel food cake made with layers of chocolate and peppermint ice cream. It was heavenly! I found the recipe in this cookbook, a gift from a beloved friend down south who knew–who KNEW–how much I’d love this cookbook.
Cate and Felicity thank you, Charlotte!
I give thanks for the gift of good friends for my daughters…
…whose mom understands the fun (and IMPORTANCE) of sleepovers, even when they are held on school nights. Cate and Felicity thank you, Cathie!
Continuing to give thanks for easy birthday themes like “snowflakes” and “horses.”
See? Easy-peasy rice & cheesy!
I then added a crepe paper “barn” overnight for the daughter who’d requested horses.
See? That’s a barn, really it is. There’s a cut-out horse, too, if you look hard enough. He’s trying to gallop away from my crepe paper barn.
Giving thanks for cute craft kits from Target…
…and for gaggles of girls watching a sweet Hallmark film.
Giving thanks that my daughters still like party games…
…like Musical Chairs and Pin the Tail on the Horse.
Yes, I know I should put that horse on a diet.
He looks more like a doped-up pony than a valiant stallion awaiting his tail.
Oh well.
The drugs helped him combat the pain.
More than anything, I am thankful for this season of life that is spinning past so fast…
…because this innocence–their innocence–is such a gift.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I don’t know that I’ll be back tomorrow but this post should be long enough to tide you over. Right? Of course, right!

What a perfect birthday!! My 9 year old is begging for a sleepover sometime, but this mama is too tired to stay up late with girlies!! (and cook breakfast in the morning)
Cake is beautiful, especially that ice cream part!
How fun to share these days forever together!

That cake looks delish! I'm so glad that book is inspiring you. And "horses in the snow" sounds like a theme I would have loved as a girl. That movie looks lovely! Did they like it?

Fabulous! I have a back to back girl and boy, with another boy 4 days earlier. We ALWAYS combine the party for the boys on the years we have one. As well as being a time/money saver for mom AND a time saver for their combined friends…it helps forge a special bond.
Your girls are lucky to have a mom who made their days so special!

Your line about the doped-up pony sent my tea right out through my nose! and down my shirt… :-p! Maggie, that's part of why I love you….. thanks for being you!
Wishing your dear family a blessed Thanksgiving.
