Break out the Pink!

December 16, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Living Liturgically, Minnesota Me, Miscarriage 8 Comments

It’s Gaudete Sunday!

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice! The Lord is near.”

(Phil. 4: 4, 5)

When I went to my holy hour this morning, I was surprised to see what I had written in the book of intentions last Sunday: “That I may have the grace to grow in holiness this Advent.”

Kind of ironic, don’t you think? One must be careful what one prays for…

Well, without wanting to sound too presumptuous, I will allow that we’re doing well despite this setback. As Kimberly Hahn says in her wonderful book, Life-Giving Love, “By the generosity of our love and God’s gift, we have conceived. This child will exist for all eternity, no matter how brief his or her life on this earth,” (p. 272).

Our little one’s name (we call her Lucia) has joined my family’s nightly litany, and we remain forever hopeful that we might be blessed with one last “keeper.” For an old bag like me, that’s no small thing!

I’m sorry. Did I just offend the other 41-year-olds? Hey, it’s the third Sunday in Advent! Are we not called to by joyful? If Sarah could conceive in her advanced age, then so can we. It’s just a question of God wanting it and our being open to His will.

Always.

Meanwhile, and on a much goofier note, I am now stuck without having the world’s most beautiful excuse for getting fat. And here I’d been making such good progress…

* * * * *

In other news, it is cold up here. Our geeky homeschooler thermometer shows a reading of a very brisk 15 degrees. Yikes. I think I’ll whip a big old batch of hotdish this afternoon (“hotdish” is Minnesotan for “comfort”) and if I’m feeling really ambitious, some homemade bread to go with it.

Oh, and that plate of cookies that the neighbors just dropped off? Today you see them, tomorrow you just won’t.

Have a blessed third Sunday in Advent, everyone! And a wonderful
week to come.

Ad Jesum per Mariam,

Beautiful name! And I’m sure she has your spunk, just like her Momma! 🙂 Happy Advent to you. It’s good to hear your joyfulness in your post. Lots of prayers are being said for you and your family over this way.

So just how does a “41 year old bag” get out of bed at 6:09 am to write a post – and on a Sunday! 🙂 I’m a 43 year old bag and I think that is like, an insane hour….it’s just so dark!

Anyway, thought I’d pop over and check in on you. I love the name you chose for your baby, and maybe you and I will both be fortunate enough to see that “thin red line” again soon, and have a keeper. I’ll keep praying for you!

Lucia is in heaven only because you were open to life and doing Gods will.
