Fin de Saison

August 30, 2011 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Gratitude, Minnesohta, Minnesota Me 16 Comments

We attended a family picnic for Boy Scouts tonight and I thought, “Two birds, one stone.”

Berns Family Photo August 2011

Meaning, I talked them all into a family photo because I needed one for the new co-op directory.

Is it just me or does Felicity look a wee bit wistful? Only two more days and then it’s goodbye August. I love the fall–I really do–but for some reason it’s been really hard to let go of this summer.

Tell me that one of you (at least) understands.

Are you kidding?? We're not starting school until after Labor Day … and the month of August is shrinking away. Next week – yikes! I was sure there was another week in between now and then. Would absolutely love another couple weeks of relaxation (who am I kidding … I do not know how to relax … I live on a farm!…we only relax during blizzards;)

The picture looks great. Yes, Felicity looks wistful.

I do understand. I do not want to say good bye to summer either. I don't know why this year is so hard.
It does make me sad. Finally the weather is getting really nice, and the kids will be going back to school next week. I know the fall will be having some fun things to do too. So I will keep thinking about that, instead of what I am really dreading, winter.

But your family picture turned out beautifully; you have cute kids!

It's something, I think, about watching your family get older and wanting to hold onto now for as long as possible. Children in high school, babies growing big, seasons slipping away. It's hard to just sit back and let that all go without a fight.

I understand. Even though it's miserably hot, there is something very special about summer with children.

I get it, too. šŸ™‚ Like Suzie, I thought there was another week between now and Labor Day, and just this morning I suddenly realized how close it is.

    What a great picture, Mags!

I echo many of those sentiments… hard to let it all go by so fast, seasons, kids, memories.

    I love the boys' smiles!!

    Beautiful photo!

I, too, love the fall, but love summer even more, so fall always makes me a little sad, I guess.
(I think I love every season except mid winter!!) (maybe that's why God is giving me a winter baby?)

    I'm right there with you.
We are going to the Little Falls Zoo tomorrow, taking off Weds helps!

Jennie C put my thoughts into her words very well…

and usually I am happy to welcome autumn (I very. much. dislike heat and humidity), but this year is different. This year, I have enjoyed the summer very much, and do not want autumn to arrive just yet even tho it is my favorite season.

Lovely photo… Wistful Felicity and your boys' smiles – prefect!!
    Blessings~

I am so incredibly ready for summer to be over! The heat and drought here have been terrible and we are finding ourselves counting down the days to fall. The five year old asked today when the first day of fall was, and if we could have a party. šŸ™‚

We are so having a party!!
