Hot off the press!(Er, that is to say, fresh from the camera.)What do you think? Can I spray her with some sort of fixative and just keep her this age forever?Felicity’s First Communion is just two weeks away! She’s more than ready.I’m...not. … [Read more...]

When it comes to Easter…

There are church photos:And there are church photos:I like them both. Here’s a shot outside the church:It’s one of approximately 302 that I took.(I have a ten-year-old son, you see.)(You understand.)I also have a 12-year-old son.I like to embarrass him in public and plan to keep it up until he’s 21 or so.At which time I figure he’ll pay me back. Now … [Read more...]

This little guy/gal should be hatching any time now. There was quite a bit of excitement yesterday when a lizard poked his nose into the nest and then went on his merry way. (Can a lizard be merry? I assume he can.) The mommy hummingbird then chucked one of the eggs out of the nest!So curious.Anyway, it's not every day that one gets to watch a baby … [Read more...]

(From the cooking blog archives)What’s on your menu for this evening? Are you feasting instead of fasting?Same here!Corned beef and cabbage is very easy to make. Have you tried it? No? You must. All I did was boil the corned beef for 30 minutes (to reduce its saltiness) with half the contents of the little spice pack that comes with it.Then I … [Read more...]

You do the math!My husband keeps saying that he’s getting OLD.Because I am and will always be 4 ½ years older, I resent that. How could he be old when clearly, I am not?No girlfriends! Phew!Mathematically it’s impossible.Still.His cake does appear to be groaning under the weight of all those candles. And get a load out of Baby Anthony’s eyes! He’s … [Read more...]

February 16, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Homeschooling, Minnesota Me, Special Events 13 Comments

Following Alicia’s lead, I’m posting the titles of my talks for the Minnesota Catholic Homeschooling conference this May.I’ve been going to this conference since before I was a homeschooler. My oldest was, um, I think four when I started going. It was held on the grounds of a church in the outer suburbs back then and now it’s held on a college … [Read more...]

February 4, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Motherhood, Special Events, Spiritual Growth 5 Comments

[Because at this time of the year, we need one.]Yep, this is where you could have found me and approximately 120 other moms last Saturday. Our feet were up (figuratively speaking) and our cups runneth over. Are you kidding? The coffee was supplied by Caribou! This is an annual event at our parish, founded by my friend Tina and co-hosted for the … [Read more...]

January 31, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Jem, Minnesota Me, My Girls, Special Events 2 Comments

[Or: And in the role of Jimmy Glover’s Naughty Little Sister…]There are many things that Jem loves about his sister.Sneaking into his room and snitching his costume is not one of them. How do I break it to Angela that the call-backs have already happened? … [Read more...]
