Thank you for chiming in on my itty bitty missive yesterday. I was rushing out the door to a funeral (the mother of a dear friend, sigh) and wanted so much to check in with my Internet friends before I left.
I didn’t really have the time to be blogging, though.
As you could probably tell.
For the record, I made it to the funeral on time and had a sad yet uplifting visit with my friend Jenn and her family. Funerals are such a wake-up call. What are we doing that really matters? How will we be remembered?
It was hard to go home and face the ordinary chores that were waiting. I wanted to be doing something “big”, something memorable, something that would fill me (and others) with inspiration.
Instead I fed the kids lunch and did some laundry.
My children were so very happy to have their momma home, though, that I know it is specifically in these “little” details that we are sanctified.
It’s in changing the sweet little bottom that needs it…and in getting squirted when I got distracted. (I was watching 24 with my husband. He laughed and said, “That’ll learn ya.”)
It’s in going to the library just for fun and bringing home a huge stack of books. The library is always fun. We had just gone the day before and still, I loved it.
It’s in going home and actually reading those books, even when you’ve got work to do.
Most of all, it’s remembering to trust in God and in the plans that He has for your life today. It’s listening to Jesus as He speaks through your family, and in honoring Him through the here…
and the now.
All for the greater glory of God,

How does that Jackie Kennedy quote go?
“If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do matters very much.”

I just lost my mother on May 1st and you are so right. It does leave one to think about what they are going to leave behind. I hope that I leave my kids full of memories of all the love I feel for them.
