A Mother’s Day of Renewal

February 4, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Motherhood, Special Events, Spiritual Growth 5 Comments

[Because at this time of the year, we need one.]

Yep, this is where you could have found me and approximately 120 other moms last Saturday.

Our feet were up (figuratively speaking) and our cups runneth over. Are you kidding? The coffee was supplied by Caribou!

This is an annual event at our parish, founded by my friend Tina and co-hosted for the first time this year by the PTO and the Altar/Rosary Society.

Tell me these ladies don’t know what they’re doing and I’ll show you a table set with chocolate and an event that begins with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

MDR II

We Catholic mommies like to get down on our knees before we put our feet up.

It’s the proper order of things, you know–less guilt that way.

MDR VIII

The speaker was Coleen Kelly Mast–cohost of The Doctor is In with Ray Guarendi and an authority on all things abstinence.

MDR XII

Seriously, this firecracker of a Catholic knows her stuff and is a HUGE gift to the Church.

MDR I

Plus she’s just a lot of fun.

We need Catholics who are a lot of fun. They, too, are a gift to the Church.

MDR IX

As expected, there were many moms and babies at this event.

MDR XI

I sometimes think that I attend specifically for the moms and babies.

MDR XIII

This is Dan and Tracy. You may remember Tracy from this post. I include this picture because of all the angry letters to the editor I received after writing it. “What? No photos of her baby bump?!”

And plus there’s nothing quite so edifying as seeing a man in a floral apron.

MDR IV

My baby spent more time trying to flee the premises than he did enjoying the company.

MDR V

It’s what he does these days.

MDR VI

It’s a mobility thing.

MDR VII

He’s very proud of it.

In the end, the day was everything it promised us–refreshing, renewing, and worth returning every year, which I do.

I highly recommend taking a day away.

Make it as long a day as possible.

*Visit Coleen’s website SexRespect.com for more information on her award-winning abstinence education programs. Her Love & Life books are wonderful and sold out at the Mother’s Day of Renewal before I was able to purchase one.

That’s okay. I know where to find her on the web.

SO glad you had a nice day!! I was at a Women's Conference too that day! I think they were on the same day last year too!

Might have to try yours next year!

Tracy looks beautiful….I think I was one of those asking to see her babe, thanks for showing!

I agree with Jamie JO! Let us in on these retreats before they happen. Jamie and I would love to go to this one!

Thanks for the link also. Fun to see all the babies and mamas and bumps!

What a beautiful gift to have a day of renewal – especially one that begins with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. What a beautiful church, too! Blessings!

Sounds amazing!! I was with Jamie at our local Women's Conference. I, too, may want to give yours a try next year and bring my mom along! SO FUN!

Thanks for the belly photo of Tracy. I am happy now. I'll stop complaining and begging…

Coming here is so edifying! Love the pictures, Tracy looks fantastic, that chocolate is calling to me, and the Mass makes it all worth it.
