A Moment with Mary

August 11, 2013 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Going Home, Minnesota Me, Prayer, Spiritual Growth 9 Comments

And a Prayer Request

In the Sitting Room

I am nearing the end of 33 Days to Morning Glory and already I know I’ll be reading it again. I know now that the only way to peace for me–and the very best means to emptying my full-to-overflowing bucket of faults–is to give all I got to Mary.

Truly, that bucket is overflowing.

  • pride
  • impatience
  • anger
  • anxiety
  • fear for our country
  • fear of the future
  • fear for my children’s physical and moral safety
  • the wanting to be a helicopter parent to keep my kids from making the same mistakes I did…

And the list could go on & on. I got faults ’cause I got sin. I have sin because I have free will, and that’s the way our Creator God wants it.

So. In the words of the great St. Louis de Montfort, “consecration to Mary is the surest, easiest, shortest and most perfect means to becoming a saint.”  Easy and short sounds good to me! As does short and perfect.

[On a side note, I plan to write a highly enthusiastic fan letter to Father Michael Gaitley. I owe him and his kind, engaging, fun and conversational writing style PLENTY.]

I would love to hear from you if you’re making this consecration along with me. Even more than that, though, I would be grateful if you could say a prayer for my sister’s husband.

(Now I see the wisdom of letting her wander around with my camera at the wedding!)

His name is Kelly, and he’s having open heart surgery on Tuesday to remove obstructions in two of his arteries. Kelly is one of the nicest, most amiable and laid-back people I know. Still, he must be anxious.

Join me now so you don’t forget. “Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.”

Thank you.

As you know, I will be renewing my Consecration to Jesus through Mary—my 3rd time reading "33Days to Morning Glory." So, I will be with you in Spirit on Thursday, Margaret! If you can ever get your hands on the videos that go with the group study of "33 Days," I HIGHLY recommend them! You would love them, I'm sure! It is a wonderful parish-based group study, too, to do with some of your church friends maybe …

I will say a prayer for Kelly. May we give him to Mary, too … She will be with him and your sister in the most loving and maternal of ways.

Oh! And your "World Wars" book has arrived, so now we really do need to get together again!

    🙂

    I will pray for Kelly.
My cousin, also named Kelly and also a man, had open heart surgery a few years ago! He is doing super.

I am renewing my consecration to Jesus through Mary (St Louis de Montfort) also, for the 18th time. I can't believe 18 years can go that fast.

What is the difference between this Morning Glory one and the one I do?

Father Gaitley made the de Montfort consecration originally, same as you and me, and refers to it as a 33-day prayer marathon. (That would be all those litanies. : ) The biggest difference with the Morning Glory consecration is its emphasis on meditation rather than vocal prayer. He calls it "a less daunting experience of spiritual reading and prayerful pondering; an alternative for those who, like [him], sometimes struggle with saying those long prayers."

The first week he focuses on the writings of de Montfort; the second, St. Maximilian Kolbe; the third, Blessed Mother Teresa, and the fourth, Blessed Pope John Paul II. It's really wonderful! (as I've…said. : )

I'm not ready to give up my prayer marathon, as I said I've done it for 18 years now…but would love to try this new one, as those litanies are very long and the week, the 3rd week where they add the rosary, killer week. (I didn't do so hot)

I'll have to check when the next one starts–to end on a feast day.

Thank you for answering the differences…love what he focuses on.

I am also a worry-wart. I tend to think the worse can happen when my children are away from my protective arms. Hard as it is..I have had to really work hard to let go. so so hard.

I think it is ok to not want our kids to go through what we went through. It was so yucky and mucky.

Would love to participate in this consecration and prayers to Kelly. Hope all goes well.

Consecrating myself to Mary was the best thing I have done in my faith life. I will renew my consecration at the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, but will pray for you as you finish yours. Our Mother is so good and God is so good to give her to us!

Keep us posted on Kelly. Offering up an Ave Maria!

Did the "Total Consecration" years ago, but "33 days to Morning Glory" sounds great. I think I know what I'm going to get with my gift card that I've had tucked away. A re-consecration to Mary is just what this convert needs as I'm learning to love Mary more or rather let Mary love me more.

    Prayers for Kelly!
