As always, the theme turns back to football.

February 6, 2011 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, My Girls 5 Comments

It’s family fun night and we’re watching a movie, The Secret of Kells.

It’s different. I’m not sure what I think of it.

Anyway, there is a scene where some Vikings attack the monastery. There are arrows; there is death. “Those guys are mean!” I exclaim. “Why’d we name our football team after them?”

To Angela, the answer was obvious.

“Because they’re tough!” she said.

We watched that movie several months ago, and didn't care for it at all.

I admit I didn't get the movie either. It was very different.

Oh, good, I thought I was clueless because I had flitted in and out. Now I realize it was just odd anyway. At the time, I almost made them turn it off.

We only made it through about 15 minutes of it before we turned it off.
We really liked Ramona and Beezus though!!
(which is what we watched this weekend)

We loved this movie! We watched it every day for three days. Of course I have kids who are animation geeks and they were awed by the great animation. Look at the real Book of Kells and you can see how deeply inspired the art in that movie was by it. This also tied into learning the Greek alphabet, since the Chi-Ro page plays such a central part. We studied the Greek alphabet a couple of summers ago. It was nice to see the kids pick up on the reference.

I saw a page of the Book of Kells in Dublin many decades ago!

If you google Book of Kells you can see glorious images of it.
