Curls are Back

August 18, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Cultural Commentary, Felicity, Minnesota Me, My Girls 6 Comments

To the tremendous delight of my daughters last night, they realized that:

1. Not only would they have curls on the morrow;

2. They also had matching accessories!

I did not plan that.

And now, (because I know that many of you are singing the song already), I give you the following snippet of gone-but-not-forgotten Americana:

My nephew used to get these perms. However, (because I value my life and limbs), I will not be sharing those photos.

Happy Monday, everyone. : )

    Holy mackeral! I was a Toni girl!! It’s a wonder I didn’t burn every hair off my head during my entire high school career…and the foam rollers! As a former cheerleader, those were part of our Friday uniform! Hair in a pony tail, 7 or 8 little foam rollers, remove right before the pep rally…

    Thanks for the memories!

    My sisters have spent the past few years straightening their hair because curls weren’t in! Whereas I always thought their curls were to be envied since girls permed their hair to be curly when I was young-er. šŸ™‚ It’s been fun to see them slowly accepting this change in style – now they have days when they’ll let their hair be curly, and days when they insist on straightening it… Strange how the whims of society effect us so strongly! šŸ™‚

    Isn’t it funny how the curly girls don’t want the curls, and those that don’t have them, want them? I was just comtemplating ironing mine out. It’s hard to be taken seriously when you have a head full of springs escaping out of your bursting barettes… But curls are adorable on little girls. Always.

    So cute, those girlie girls!

    Lisa, I LOVE curly hair and fried my own locks via that noxious Toni many a time before I finally grew up and accepted myself for who I am…straight and flat. Embrace your springs!

    And in case you haven’t met her IRL yet, let me tell you that our own dear Margaret has gorgeous hair, the perfect amount of luster and bounce, as you might expect, given her personality. Some girls have all the luck.

    Oh, my gosh, those girls are way too cute. And the matching toothbrushes! Don’t tell Ramona.
