Hey everyone, it’s me—trying to get my blogging sea legs back after the unexpected loss of my computer. It happened like this: I was in the kitchen signing our Christmas “Ordinary Time” newsletters (hush) at 4:00 a.m. the other morning (double hush) when I walked past my desk and saw that the screen had gone all blue on me.
Scanning the text, I saw, near the bottom, the line “Beginning dump of physical memory.”
I scared the heck out of my husband by snapping on the bedroom light.
“John?” I said. “The words on the computer—they frighten me.”
He staggered downstairs and he saw what I meant. “That’s the blue screen of death,” he said. “Can I deal with this in the morning?”
He did deal with it, too, in ways mysterious and wonderful. He explained what he’d had to do, using words like “external hard drive” and “universal back-up” and I am smiled with gratitude and thought, “Better him than me.”
It’s 0 degrees in Minnesota this week. I NEED MY WINDOW TO THE WORLD!!!
[cough]
Anyway, I’m back.
Did you miss me?
I feel shy and awkward.
Here’s a video until I think of what else to say. She’s cute, isn’t she? And best of all (IMHO) she is very, very French.
HT: my friend Coco.
Updated to Add: You know, the more I listen to this little sweet pea, the more I think that she’s talking about a wolf and not a lion. What do you think?

So glad you are back Margaret! Condolences on the blue screen of death – we had similar experience in November. Thankfully my husband had an external hard drive and had actually transferred everything on to it – I'd hate to lose all those photos!! Welcome back!

I have been wondering where you've been! I'd be frightened too if the Blue Screen of Death popped up on my computer. Yikes! Glad to hear that your handy hubby could fix it. Phew.
Wonderful to have you back!

I missed you too and figured there was something amiss when you hadn't posted again.
Blue screens of death are very scary, no doubt about it.
Glad he was able to save things for you.
So, when you're up at 4 am (which I've been known to do too), are you up UNTIL for or do you go to sleep and get up at 4? Just curious. I've folded laundry, but don't think I would have been signing newsletters. But then again, it's been some time since a letter or card went out for Christmas around here….

So nice to have you back! You had me laughing very loudly here – my husband talks that funny language too. Most frightening of all is what on earth would we do without our tech support I mean husbands?

Oh, is she not adorable?
And, I was *wondering* where you were ….

I'm glad you are back! I was getting worried!

Glad you're back, Margaret. I hope you didn't lose too much off of your computer …
Stay bundled up and warm! It's crazy cold. At least the sun was out yesterday. That helped a bit …
Blessings!

Glad you're back. I missed your posts. I have a Mac and experienced the "spinning pizza wheel of death" last spring. It was awful.

It would be very bad to be without the window to the world in this cold! Glad you are back up and running.

Elizabeth, when I'm up at 4:00 it's because I've gotten up at 4:00. We're on a CRAZY schedule around here. I go to bed at 9:00 and my husband putters until 3:00 or so. I get up at 3:00 or so and we greet each other at the time clock, just like the dog & the wolf in that old Loony Tunes cartoon.
Sarah, thankfully we didn't lose anything. My husband had it all backed up on that "external hard drive" he was talking about.
At least, I think that's where he stores it. 😛

Husbands are wonderful that way.
Mary was amazed at the video. "How did she learn all that French?" she wondered!

Missed you, ya you betcha!!!
I loved that little darling French girl. What a great story!!! 😉 Christian came in to have a listen. He took from it: manage les babes. Nice. Anyhoo – that's a teen kid for you. I am teaching him basic basic French (it's all I know). Progress is slow, but it is still progress. He thought it was cute.
I married an IT guy of sorts. He's very handy. Of course, the kids PC did some nose diving this week . . . he's gone, but back home tomorrow . . . I hope to finish putting pics on a memory stick and loading those onto two frames for grandparents patiently awaiting their XMAS gifts . . . which will soon be ChristValentine gifts. 🙂
