Vintage Six

October 12, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, My Girls, Special Events 22 Comments

“All things bright and beautiful pink and purple-y;
All creatures Littlest Pet Shop great and small,
All things wise and wonderful frosted and ice-creamy,
The Lord God made them all.”

My five-year-old went away yesterday.

Birthday Princess

In her place, I have a princess.

Do you have a six-year-old princess chez vous? They’re great. They like pink and purple.

Angela Bday I

They really, really like pink and purple.

You know what I’ve decided about birthday cakes? They may turn out fairly pretty–and I think this one is fairly pretty, if you’re into the Tower of Pisa look–but in the end, if they don’t taste good…

Angela Bday II

Well, then what’s the point of making it?

My point is this: I skimped and bought some ready-made frosting, and it was SO not worth it. Quoth the raven: Nevermore!

Angela Bday VI

At least not that brand.

(It was Pillsbury “Creamy Supreme” in classic white. Yuck, yuck and triple yuck.)

Okay, everybody, name this parking garage!

Angela Bday III
~ Before ~

What, you don’t know?! I thought everybody came to Minnesota to visit this parking garage.

Or is it the mall that’s attached to it?

Angela Bday IV
~ After ~

I don’t know. For us, the Mall of America is just another mall. It’s right down the road, same as Payless Shoes and Caribou Coffee.

Caribou Coffee. Now there’s a destination worth your while!

But I digress…

Angela Bday V

Okay then, tell me this. Have you ever been to a Build-a-Bear workshop? Have you ever been to the Mall of America? Have you ever been to a Build-a-Bear workshop at the Mall of America?

It’s important that I know these things.

Angela Bday VIII

A fluffy white candy corn bear is, quite possibly, the cutest thing I have ever seen. “Pick that one or no more birthdays!” I told her.

Not that I tried to influence her decision or anything.

Angela Bday VII

This is George’s shell-shocked look. He thought that having three sisters got loud but that is nothing–Nothing! he’ll tell you–compared to the noise that six girls can make.

Angela Bday IX

It’s a princess thing, you know?

And they are worth it.

I LOVE the candy corn bear! Build-a-Bear must be a 6 year old thing. My 6 year old guy asked to go to. Happy Birthday, sweet girl! Princess cakes are my favorite!

Sorry about the canned frosting. I'll give you my Wilton basic frosting recipe if you want it.

I've been to the Mall of America! I was in MN a few years ago visiting one of my best friends, and she treated me to an afternoon at the MoA – it was great!

My little sister loves Build-a-Bear; she's 13, but she loves it! The last bear she built was an ice skating bear I think…

Love the candy corn bear! 🙂

I do have a 6 yr. old who loves all things pink and fancy. In fact, we had a Fancy Nancy birthday party for her just last month! Happy Birthday to your 6 yr. old princess!

Happy Birthday to the Princess! She picked such a cute bear! I love Build-A-Bear! I can't wait until my little princess is old enough to have a birthday there! We took her to one this past September to make one for her God-Mother for her birthday (my daughter was 8 months old….she had fun. I probably had more fun!) I've never been to the Mall of America but think it'd be fun! 🙂

My girls LOVE BABW…Thank you. My 10 year old (almost eleven – sniff) is still sleeping with hers. The one year old calls it HER baby, but that's another story.

    Thanks again.

And, as always I love to read what you write. Love it, love you!

I didn't realize that Angela and my Molly were so very close in age. Molly just turned six on St. Francis' Feast Day. 🙂

Funny thing is – she also wanted to take a trip to the Mall of America for her birthday. But, it's a considerably longer drive for us. 😉 We are planning a trip sometime though.

Happy birthday princess! I had a 6-year-old princess, but I'm happy to say that the now 9-year-old still has a bit of princess in her. She's resisted the "tween" call to love divas and Disney "stars" (with a little ahem guidance from her parents) and still likes some of her princess stuff.

On the icing, too often I do use the canned icing too – but never the plain white — cream cheese (for white) or milk chocolate only! I just don't have a fail-proof homemade icing I love.

You are a brave mama to take 6 girls to Build a Bear! Have never been to MoA, but was to a BaB in NJ when our kids got gift certificates from a relative. Dare I also say you were also generous — I'm guessing that there was no free-wheeling down the outfit and accessories aisles?

How fun! Can you believe that Evelyn has NEVER been to the MOA? I want to take her to the American Girl store so that's a possible plan for November…but some things need to fall into place first.

    So sweet!!

You know, my Rilla (4 1/2) informed me the other day that while her older brother happens to be six years old right now, that's because he's a boy. Girls, she tells me, are four, then five, then princess six.

You've just proved her right. 🙂
