On the road again?

October 21, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Blogging, Family Fun, Minnesota Me 6 Comments

Nope, not yet.

Texas XIII

It is fun to dream and to think about, though. Where would we go next, if we could?

Certainly we could have spent another week (at least) in Texas. There are so many blogging friends of the heart down there—KC, I’m sorry that we missed you!—but only so much time in a weekend.

And flying with a 16-month-old? Not on the list of my favorite things. I was lucky to have an empty seat next to us on the way down but the way home was a different story. Mmm, sardines! Fortunately the guy sitting next to us was both patient and good-natured. “My children call that the ‘kicking side’,” I cautioned him, as George proceeded to pummel him while he nursed.

“Not a problem,” the man said with a smile, and I thanked God for the gift of friendly seatmates.

Now we are home and have a freshly renewed interest in learning about the fifty states. Go figure! We’ve been listening to this CD a lot, which, as corny as some of the songs are, remains a big hit with the littles. “Austin, Texas…Austin, Texas!” My 13-year-old rolls his eyes but he’s learning the capitals and that’s all that matters.

In Mom’s opinion.

I’m going to close with a little poem that showed up in my in-box today. It, too, is a wee bit corny, but I found the timing to be…uncanny.

God bless all my family & friends
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm
And safe from harm
For they’re so close to me.

And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don’t mind me asking,
Please bless my computer too.

You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.

I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me in to where they live.

By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you.
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.

May God bless you & yours today! And thank you, my friend, for reading.

    We will meet one of these days, Margaret. I just need to figure out a way to drive through Minnesota on the way east. 🙂

    Mr. Incredible rode back from DC ysterday with a young mom and her timy baby as seat mates. Mr. I assured her that as the father of nine, nothing flusters him, but the poor mom was so nervous! As it turned out, the baby slept the whole way.

    The rest of us rarely fly, but we get to Minnesota often (two of our kids and three of my siblings are there!). We love it there, and it makes me smile thinking that I'm "getting to know you" and you're there, too! Cements everything we know about the friendliness up north.
