Today is the feast of St. Peter Claver. (See a related link here.)
It is also Jamie’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Jamie!
St. Peter Claver is a great Spanish saint who was full of love and zeal for the African missions. A few years ago, my kids gave a performance for our co-op’s annual Saints & Scholars. Joe was St. Peter Claver and Jem, Cate and Felicity were African children.
“St. Peter Claver” spoke earnestly about caring for the people in his mission. He clothed them, (Here he put a shirt on the bare-chested Jem, who up until then had been dying of embarrassment), he fed them, (Ploop! He stuck a binky in Felicity’s mouth) and he took care of their nasty diseases. (He gave Cate’s nose a couple good scrubs with a Kleenex.)
I smile to remember how young they seemed and should track down the DVD to show them. I think—yet again—how the years are flying by. I pray—because I really need to be praying hourly—that I will be the very best of missionaries to these children in my mission.
St. Peter Claver, pray for us.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! Go and wish Jamie a happy birthday, and as always make every moment count.
