Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb. (John 19:41)
Holy Saturday is a hard one, I think. On the one hand, we are past the grueling spiritual work-out that Good Friday represents. Whew! And yet, on the other hand, He hasn’t risen yet.
I always find myself tempted to fudge on my Lenten resolutions on Holy Saturday.
Oh dear. Did I say fudge?
So Holy Saturday is still a time of waiting, yes. For many of us, though, it is also a time of fervor and activity. Dresses are pressed and ties are found. Last minute trips to the grocery store are made, and dinner lists are checked and re-checked. And of course, innumerable baskets are surreptitiously assembled in one’s closet! (I don’t care if you had to open that bag of M&M’s to fill the Easter eggs. Leave them alone.)
My prayer for today, then, is to find the quiet in it all.
My prayer for today is to focus–always a challenge–and to pull out a few last weeds from the garden that’s my soul.
He.
Did this.
For me.
The question is: what can I do for Him now? I know one answer. I am going to make three phone calls I’ve been postponing for a long time. Happy almost Easter! I will say. How are you?
And then I’ll listen.
Happy almost Easter, my friend. May your Easter vigil be blessed, and may the garden of your soul be filled with gladness.
