Requiescat in Pace

November 2, 2006 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Living Liturgically, Minnesota Me 2 Comments

If you’re reading this post before midnight, it’s not to late to fit in a trip to the local cemetery to obtain a partial indulgence for the poor souls. (Begging your pardon if you’ve already done so.) I tell my kids, “You spring a soul from purgatory; you’ve made a friend for life!”

We went here:

To pray for him:

my much-loved former student, John, who died a tragic death ten years ago at the much-too-young age of 18.

It was freezing cold and a few light snowflakes were on the wind. We couldn’t stay graveside very long and had to say our prayers in the van, but in the end we were so happy to have gone.

For more information on gaining indulgences throughout the month of November, go
here.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Ed. Note: Helen from Castle of the Immaculate kindly pointed out that the partial indulgence may be obtained every day this week. She’s right, of course, and I beg an even greater pardon if I made you rush out the door at 11:45 p.m.!

In any case, thank you, Helen! Personally I think that it’s a good thing I’ve given everything I do over to Our Lady; that way she can make right my mistakes!

[…] And yet, it’s hard for us to talk about death and it’s unbelievably hard to lose someone we love. My devotion to the Holy Souls is one way that I stay close to them–to my grandparents, my niece, my cousin, my former student. […]
