The June 2017 Edition
This will be a post largely told in pictures because when it comes to an altogether too brief family reunion…
…who needs words?
Okay, here’s a little background. We went home last week—five of my kids and me—to see my Daddy, my brother, my cousin Jim (who was on his way to my parents’ hometown), and three of my four beautiful sisters.
It’s bittersweet going to see my Daddy because this once joyful man doesn’t smile much anymore. He’s tired…he’s ready to be with my mom…and it’s we who don’t want to say goodbye. My dad’s been moved to the Memory Care section of the facility because he has fallen a lot and needs closer supervision. He is visited daily by my sisters and their family; he is loved so much by his children and grandchildren.
This is not to say that our visits don’t get long sometimes.
My big boys elevated the mood (and the littlest punks themselves) and between the wrestling, the wheelchair rides and the root beer floats, we had a beautiful & memory-filled day.
We were there and back in a single day, but honestly? Every time I go…
…I leave another small piece of my heart with him. ♥

I was so lucky to get to see four of my beautiful cousins when I visited my Uncle George.
As a bonus there was a covey of their children there also.
God Bless You All.

Cousin Jim, I was remiss to not include the picture of I took of you & Yvonne. Woops! I have updated the post to include one of my bestest relatives. 🙂

A perfect post of photos. Your pictures of your dad and you especially touched my heart. I was very close to my dad’s parents, and although they went Home to the Lord more than 7 and 10 years ago, I still miss them. My grandma spent six years in memory care before her passing; my grandpa was in a nursing home for 8 years. I was an adult by then and spent a lot of time with them; but still not enough time. It is such a bittersweet blessing to be with our closest family members in their winter years.

Beautiful pictures Margaret. Photos of your Dad bring tears to my eyes every single time – so touching. Have you read the book “My sister’s the saints?”. I am currently reading the chapter about the author’s father and am thinking of you and your Dad.
Oh also, please add me to your list to subscribed via e-mail if you would.

My dear friend Sarah gave me a copy of that book! I will read that chapter this weekend. ♥
