(No, this is not a pregnancy announcement.)
Growing up, I was not a fan of the TV show Full House, mainly because I was too busy being a college student (i.e. partying studying profusely) to watch TV.
I did, however, have the D.J. Tanner hair down pat, as proven by my passport photo (circa 1986) :
I’m surprised they let me out of the country.
Of course, I knew about the show…the super-cute Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, the super-cute John Stamos…but I wasn’t a fan, for perhaps obvious reasons:
1. The show is geared toward 11-year-old girls;
2. It has a laugh track.
Still. Even a TV snob like myself was curious about the brand new Fuller House on Netflix, which premieres TODAY and which I was able to screen in advance with my daughters. Sure enough, my 11-year-old and 13-year-old were transfixed, whereas I winced to hear Stephanie use the term “hooking up.”
I dunno. Once not a fan once never a fan?
I repeat: there’s a laugh track.
Yet, there’s something light-hearted and fun about such goofy fare that I find appeals to my middle schooler. The world can be a heavy place and let’s face it: it’s fun to laugh and John Stamos is still cute. Will we watch the whole season as a family? Probably not, but it’s nice to know that there’s another safe (albeit silly) option.
Also, we may need a break from housebreaking our puppy.
(We’re picking him up in one short hour!)
