…we are making our way towards the King.
Point the First:
This man.
On Monday Father Andrew Cozzens became Bishop Andrew Cozzens.
That would be a big thing.
Not surprisingly, the Cathedral was packed. This was my view:
Here. I’ll zoom in a bit as a courtesy.
Pretty cool, huh? I thought so.
This man. Bishop Andrew Cozzens. Wow. I have blogged about him before, for good reason. He was the priest that blessed my womb–a womb that had miscarried four times in a row, a womb that then conceived our George.
This man. This wonderful, awesome, holy man.
Point the Second:
As busy as we’ve been the past couple of weeks…and we’ve been really, really busy…
I’m glad we’ve made time for service projects.
That would be a big thing too, I think. Service projects take us out of ourselves, and that’s a very good thing this season, especially when (and this is purely hypothetical) one’s letter to Santa reads: “I would like a Nexus 7 or 200 dollars in cash.”
Not gonna happen, Virginia.
Oh, and the zero-degree temps really added to the perspective! Fortunately, the passers-by took pity on them and made (I hope) more donations than usual.
Point the Third:
Buying wonky vegetables.
This would be a little thing, I suppose, but it did serve the dual purpose of healthy side dish and walking staff.
Point the Fourth:
Christmas baking. That’s probably a big thing, right?
This is how we Minnesotans cool our cookies, by the way.
(And not to mention, freeze our beer.)
Also? If you’ve never made these Candy Cane Kiss cookies, (pictured above), you must you must you simply MUST. They are one of my very favorites.
And that’s my semi-random list of things little and big, all of them one way of preparing for my King. Hey, if it’s done in love it counts! It all counts.

You've been up to lots of good stuff! Love that shot of George, like some sort of cruciferous Gandalf. Blessed Advent to you and yours!

Eek – it just hit me that I wrote George instead of Francis! So sorry! (my brain can be so lame these days)
And hooray / Deo Gratias for a new bishop! We have been sede vacante for months here (my kids jest that we will all become heretics and schismatics due to our lack), praying and waiting in hope.

I'm so happy for you and your new Bishop. Our parochial vicar here in Athens, Ga just made the trip up to be there for the big day on Monday. Here is his blog: http://gashwingomes.blogspot.com/ I'm not sure how they know each other. What a small sweet world we live in. Blessings to you and yours!

It is indeed a small world, T.E., because I met Father Gaurav at the reception! He was there with a priest from my hometown!!
They all three went to seminary together. 🙂

I set out our cookies once at our old house and a dog came by and feasted!!! Thank goodness they were not chocolate.
Watch out for stray dogs!!
Off to get ready for Mass….amazing that young priest made Bishop, and I remember him…you should write him and let him know of the graces he bestowed upon you, it will inspire him!!
Patty says
Jamie Jo, that happened to my mom, too!

Haha, yes, that outdoor freezer does come in handy! I forgot you weren't supposed to freeze potatoes. I left them in the garage. All frozen. Ruined. Oops!
I want cookies.

Praise God for Godly men!

Thank you so much for posting about Bishop Cozzens. I live in CA, but my sister, who is a Franciscan Sister in the St. Louis area, knew him when they served with NET Ministries together. She was so excited to be able to go to the Cathedral for his appointment to bishop. BTW, he shared with her and my mom in the past that he used to draw material for his homilies out of my favorite book (The Gift of Faith by Fr. Tadeusz Dajczer) – I highly recommend it! Thanks for your honest sharing, Margaret. I have been a long time reader….God bless.

I might have to try that cooling trick with my Christmas cookies! I've been meaning to ask, has your husband found work yet? I still keep you guys in my prayers.
Blessings,
Monica

My husband has started his own business, Monica. It's a lot of work but it's work–it's work!–and we thank God for that. ♥
