In other words, out with the old…
Which is not to say that holding a newborn is anything “new” for me, but for some reason—for some strange, advanced maternal reason—it feels like a season that is swiftly fleeting, and for that reason I’m hanging on for dear life.
Haven’t made any resolutions yet, other than be a better wife and mother (same as always, as necessary as ever) and maybe lose one or two of these postpartum kilos.
[That last one can wait for another day or three. It’s Christmas, you know! Give me a break and pass the cheesecake!]
For now, however, and since my little guy is snoozing…
I am popping in to say Happy [almost] New Year!! I wish you every good gift & richest blessing, much as this past year has—in its own unique & unexpected way—blessed us. I will be back in a few days, more or less, with a “Rest of the Story” post for those of you who like nitty-gritty details.
I did it without the epidural, after all.
But I didn’t get that lovely water birth, either.
See you soon! With love in Him,
Jamie Jo says
I was wondering about that water birth, (you ol' lady) Happy New Year!! God bless you all!
Love, love love seeing pictures of your sweet little baby boy!!

He's so beautiful! I know that "hanging on for dear life" feeling very well — turning 45 and my "new" baby being 16 months old makes me feel like life is on fast-forward. Not that I have to tell you, but enjoy every second with that little man. 🙂

Happy New Year to the Berns Family! What a blessing you have in that sweet baby boy!

Happy and Blessed New Year! Munch up that sweet baby, oh it goes so fast!
Colleen says
Wow no epidural and no water birth…super woman!
minnesotamom says
If my "super power" includes going from 4 to 10 cm in 30 minutes, Colleen, I'm there. Otherwise, it was more like Super (Groaning) Woman.
More later! 🙂

Happy New Year, Margaret. It looks like I'll be waiting a few more days instead of joining you in the newborn holding crowd. Enjoy a piece of that cheesecake for me. I'm trying to be good and let my digestive system recover.
Kiss that sweet little guy of yours and enjoy every minute of snuggles. This season is fleeting indeed.

I'm just so happy for you, Margaret, and proud of the no epidural! You did it! Praise God! I'm in the throes of the feeling awful first-trimester w/number four and seeing these pictures of your sweet one and hearing about your savoring of him are good reminders that this is a gift to be thankful not begrudge b/c of how awful I feel!

Happy New Year, Margaret! I am so tickled that our boys arrived a few days apart, even though we only know each other in blog life. And I can't wait to hear the nitty-gritty details. I am working on posting the nitty-gritty on my labor, although it was distinctly more gritty than I would have liked. Oh well, he's here just the same! 🙂

Your labor sounds like mine in October…4 to 10 in 30 mins, no epidural either. He is beautiful!

He's beautiful. Happy New Year. 🙂

'Grats on the natural delivery 🙂 I didn't get the water thing with any of mine either, but heck, birth is a great accomplishment! Ouch, 30 minutes… can't wait for the nitty, gritty as well. Snuggle your lil' man, I am so jealous.
Love,
Old mama who wishes it wouldn't end so soon….

Happy New Year and I am in awe of the whole natural birth.
I am proud of you and those intentions hopefully helped a little.
Sitting here waiting for the whole story!
Baby love is in that home!
