Sweet Nothings

January 23, 2011 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Anecdotal, Minnesota Me, New Baby 10 Comments

I scooped up George and held him close.

“I’m going to tell you a secret,” I told him. “I’m going to whisper it in your ear.”

He looked at me curiously.

“I love you,” I whispered, and he responded with a grunt.

“You are a very nice young man.” He merely sat there.

“You are really, really cute.” At this he nodded vigorously. “Finally!” he seemed to be saying. “You tell me something I want to hear!”

Oh, the shame of it.

I tell George these things and I tell him them often, because—as you can see—the kid suffers innumerable indignities at the hands of his sisters.

He also turns 21 months tomorrow.

Can you believe it.

Tommy has only recently begun whispering sweet nothings in my own ear. 🙂 Sweetest – and loudest – thing ever.

    Oh he looks beautiful!
It's so funny you posted this, it must be that time of year that sisters impose their will on younger brothers. My niece just sent me a photo of her two children. My 9 year old niece put face make up on her 7 year old brother. He really was beautiful she did a great job with purple showdow, but my nieces comment to her Mom when her Mom walked into the room and without turning or missing a beat — "He really is lovely, don't you think?"

Very hard to believe. And I think that the indignities he suffers at the hands of his sisters look like great fun! Pass the tea and sugar, please.

Your house too? You should've seen the lovely little 'girl' we had visit us for tea last week… gasp!
No way can I even begin to articulate the look on Hubby's face!

Oh I am so glad my son isn't the only young man to have suffered indignity at the hands of a sister…

Poor George!! Mean 'ole sisters!! My son used to walk around with a "pocketbook" that my grandmother crocheted for him, because he always wanted his sisters!
