The Beauty of Blogging

An Odd, Semi-Obsessive Little Tale

[Part I]

Anthony’s been fussy the past couple of nights, the result of a lingering ear infection. The usual drill is that Mom (the early bird) will nurse him until he’s full and then Dad (the night owl) will take over. Two nights ago, however, I woke to the sound of loud, persistent, angry wails and so, bleary-eyed but concerned, I made my way downstairs.

“I’ve gotten him to sleep twice,” John reported, “Only to have him wake up crying five minutes later.” He fumbled with the cap on the children’s Motrin. “Here. Can you help me with this?”

John was cranky and I didn’t blame him. There is nothing as stressful as a sick, unhappy baby. Thankfully, the dose of pain reliever did the trick and soon Anthony was settled down comfortably in his arms.

“You need your sleep,” John said authoritatively, as if it were my choice to be standing there at 1:00 a.m. “Let’s get to bed.”

Docilely I followed him up the stairs and crawled into bed beside him.

I hadn’t lain there but a minute or two before I felt a tickle in my throat. I tried to suppress the cough—no luck. It escaped my mouth to the disapproval (I imagined) of my husband and the near wakening of my baby.

“May I go downstairs to get a cough drop?” I asked meekly.

(Having just been ordered to bed by my husband, I felt it best to ask his permission to leave it. He grunted his assent.)

I went downstairs.

Passing by the computer, I saw that it hadn’t been turned off for the night. I went over to shut it down and only that, I promise! Still. If you give a mom a computer she will want to check her email. It’s just…a given.

There was advice, I saw, from Lori N. of Minnesota, regarding the stains that the children had made on our carpet that day. She said that she had always had luck with Windex, of all things! She was tossing this suggestion out there (with a disclaimer) and I could do with it what I would.

What would you have done, if you were me?

Would you have gotten your cough drop and gone back to bed?

To be cont.

Definately not! I would have tried the Windex out for sure!

Those are rhetorical questions, right? The answer is very obvious, unless you don't have Windex in your house because you've been reading all about bloggers using only baking soda and vinegar and you decided to jump on the bandwagon with them. Or is that just me?

I am laughing SO hard, because I totally would get out the Windex at that very moment to see if it worked then get back on the computer to post the results with photos! And, my amazing husband is the same way, ordering me to bed, because he knows me. It's such a blessing!

Cleaning carpets in the middle of the night? No, but not long ago, I did unload a wagon full of hay at three AM in the pouring rain. 🙂 I guess that's the same kind of crazy.

I would have tried it right then. Last night, I used Goo Gone to remove about 3 feet worth of crayon markings from the pillar that separates the living and dining rooms. It does work.

Not gone back to bed -excuse for hubby, choking on a cough drop would be BAD! 😉 Probably would have done another search on Windex and stains. If curiosity remained high, I would have tried it on a stain – probably not the one in the bedroom, though!

Not being married or with children but having a cleaner, the question doesn't really apply. But I can't wait to hear what you did!

I would have been sorely tempted to try it right then, but I probably would have gone back to bed and tried it in the morning. Though it does bear mention that my husband and I haven't been blessed with children yet, so that could change the calculus…running after a two-year-old might preclude working on a stain during the day… 🙂

Since cleaning is NOT my forte (requires elbow grease, which I am short on these days), I would have printed the email, left it for my husband, and gone back to bed.

Well, the patriarch of the family in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" thought Windex was the remedy for everything… eczema, pimples… I am sure he would have suggested it for carpet stains, too! 😉

I'd totally tack down that windex and try it out.. and probably blog about it too, eh kindred spirit?

Hmm. When reading it I would have wanted to try it immediately, but would have ended up back in bed, because we don't use Windex (only natural cleaners). =0) It does sound intriguing…if it works I may just have to make one exception on my natural cleaners philosophy, haha.

I would have 'starred' the comment so I'd remember it for the next day … probably. Also, I know that if I go into the kids' room I'd be risking a wake-up. I have some light sleepers and early risers.

While I'm with you on being an early bird and hubby being a late owl, I am so not with you on the Windex at 1AM. Even if I owned it. 😉

    Waiting for part deuce.
