My family is heaving a collective sigh of relief.
Baseball is done for the season.
Jem went out with a bit of a bang, hitting a double in the third inning of the first All Star game (“Mom, I hit the ball so hard I ripped open my blister!”) and scoring the winning run, to boot. That’s it for the bragging rights on Mom’s part, though, because they lost today and were out of the championship.
Yet we’re not really in it to win, are we? Okay, we are, but we also sign them up because it’s great exercise and because they learn important life skills such as sportsmanship and teamwork.
And plus they’re just so darn cute in those uniforms.

Tell Jem congratuations on being an All-Star. And I share your relief at baseball being over. Matthew got knocked out of the playoffs on Thursday. It is a great activity for him, but it gets to be a bit of a grind for the rest of us.
