I am in awe of what God can do through the union of man and woman, and it’s not just the mystery of new life that moves within me.
I’m talking about this 4-year-old girl.
She is every bit as much a hybrid as her brothers and sisters, and yet she is…
…so different.
She is closest in age to her 6-year-old sister…
…and yet she is as distinct from her as surfboarding is from star-gazing. She is scrambled to her sister’s sautéed; she is a crazy Jackson Pollock to her sister’s quiet Claude Monet.
She’s a pint-sized ballerina with a blue Kool-Aid mustache and ketchup on her tutu.
She’s a 3-foot whirlwind in need of herding.
This is the face of my 4-year-old girl, who for the past four years has been my baby and who for the past four years has needed me more than anybody.
But that is all about to change.
In one short month, my itty bitty four-year-old will be replaced by a much, much smaller newborn, and suddenly “four” will seem like “fourteen.”
All for the greater glory of God,

Sweet. So sweet. Yes, I think she has a wise, old soul inside of her — that pink tornado.

She is so beautiful. It IS amazing how big they suddenly seem next to a newborn sibling, isn’t it?

I look at David, who is almost 28 months old, and he is so much my baby still. If another child were to be blessed to us, he would be able three. And would then seem to be “about 13” as you would say. God has such a wonderful plan. Seems your “little” one needed you the most, and she got you. All of you. Hang in there during this last month! You’re almost done!

I meant to say David would be three years old by the time another baby was born…my bad. I need more coffee…;-)

it’s coming soon! I’m so excited!

All your children are so lovely! I think it’s great you’ve had four years of her getting all of you. I remember how big my oldest was when his dady brought him in to visit me and his new sister in the hospital . . . it was shocking! But, he was only barely two! He was still a baby, too.
I can’t wait to see the new one! Take it easy. We’re all praying for you!

What a beautiful post! I have had similar thoughts about my current youngest who will turn 4 about 2 weeks before the baby comes.

She is so darling. The difference between my two girls is the same. One lovely, the other, feisty. So fun! Do you spoil her? I’m always having to check myself for being too lenient with M. I let her get away with way too much. Those crazy-tempered ones are just so dang loveable!

My youngest is totally spoiled. Little Boo is my tornado, though. Little Love, is just that. So “little” so lovely.
And, just recently, she has been hanging all over her Papa more and more…
Very sweet.
🙂

Kristen, I totally spoil David, and he is the hot head and fiesty one of the bunch. I can’t help it…he’s too darn cute!

so very true. i am amazed at how, in the course of a 2 day hospital stay, the previous youngest “grows up”

Hi Margaret
Oh she is so cute in that pink dress, twirling. That look on her face is priceless.
My friend once described her two girls as being like candy – ‘one is a like gummy bear and the other is a sour worm.’ Both girls are lovely but one goes with the flow, never complaining but the other has a thunder cloud hanging over her the minute something is not right.
Yes, your girl is growing up fast, watching everything her older siblings do. She’ll get on just fine when this baby arrives. I’m sure she’ll be your ‘little mother hen’.
Enjoy your weekend. Got any bubble baths planned?
Cheers – Joolz
