My Pretty Sisters and a Story

January 5, 2009 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Gratitude, Minnesota Me, Special Events 8 Comments

I just got a card in the mail from my mom with the following message: “Wish you could have been here for this picture, Margie—all four sisters together. Thought you might like to see them.”

From left to right: My sister Renee, my mum, my sister Yvonne,
my sister Linda, and my sister Mary

She was right. I regret being so far away from the rest of my family in North Dakota, especially on special occasions. This photo was taken on my mom’s 83rd birthday, which was also the feast of All Hallows’ Eve. (Thus the ominous scythe threatening my mother and my sisters.) My three sisters who are local always spend Halloween with my mom & dad, along with various other grandchildren & great-grandchildren, etc. (They use Mom & Dad’s house as home base for all their trick-or-treating and revelry. It’s a fun night.)

The story goes that as a surprise this year, my sister Linda drove up from Kansas where she works as an OB nurse.

She rang the doorbell in full costume. When my dad answered, Linda gruffly said, “Trick or treat.” My father put a couple of pieces into her sack, and Linda responded by grabbing the bowl from him and saying, “More candy!”

“Rita!” My dad called out helplessly for my mom, who is not helpless.

“You give that bowl back!” my mom ordered.

“I want more candy!” Linda grunted.

“Who are you?!” my mom demanded.

The grim reaper took off her mask to reveal…a beloved (albeit obnoxious) daughter.

I just love my family.

With smiles & gratitude & a wistful sigh,

Ummmm….is that scythe in the background meant to intimidate, or is it just a decoration? lol

Yep – that would be my mother! 🙂 Bradee got her Christmas package today! In her own words, “I just love it when my Aunt Margie gets me art stuff!!!”

Miss you lots and love you more! Hope your tummy is good!

I can’t believe how much they look like you. You are so blessed to have so many sisters. I had none. My parents could not have children and Catholic Charities would only allow them to adopt two. It just goes to show you one of the best gifts you can give your child is a sibling.
