When Sarah Laughed

November 17, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Friends of the Heart, Minnesota Me, Prayer, Special Events Leave a Comment

“In hope he believed against hope, that he should become
the father of many nations.” (Romans 4:18)

I have been thinking a lot about Abraham’s wife Sarah these days. The first reason is that she was old like me when she bore Isaac. (Okay, she was a wee bit older.) The second is that I have been following Elizabeth’s birth story and it is beautiful.

I used to think that it was rude of Sarah to have laughed when she heard she was expecting. Me have a child at this advanced age? Preposterous! These days, though, I am clinging to the thought that it was her joy that bubbled out of her—a joy despite the anxiety, laughter despite her fears.

Elizabeth linked to her pregnancy prayers and I have printed out all twenty pages for my journal. Perhaps you, too, will find a prayer (or two, or twenty) that will be helpful to you in whatever trial you may be facing. We all have them, don’t we? This is our lot in life. The way that we choose to face them is an act of the will and an act of faith—the faith of Abraham and Sarah.

Here is that document. Thank you, Elizabeth, for sharing it.

Now then. Speaking of trials, I would like to ask you to join me in prayer for my friend Michele.

The Quigleys have been struggling—in good faith, I might add—since two of their children were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. It is hard enough to have to deal with the demands of the daily injections and the long, sometimes hourly vigils throughout the night. It is a lot to ask of a mother of ten—a very lot.

Now there is a new struggle. The Quigleys are waiting to receive health insurance coverage and until then, they have to cover the costs of the insulin themselves. At $600.00 per child/per month, it is an expense made all the more challenging by its timing. It’s almost Christmas, for goodness’ sake!

Well, guess what? We can help. From now until Christmas, Hillside Education is donating all of their profits to this lovely “little” family in their hour of need. Please consider doing some of your Christmas shopping or bookshelf stocking over there…and do make a small donation if you can.

Here is the link to that page.

Thank you in advance for your goodness and generosity!

All for the greater glory of God,
