Today is the Feast of the Assumption, which you already knew.
Today is also my oldest son’s 11th birthday, but you already knew that too.
Why are you even here, then? Why bother reading the blog of such a repetitive old woman? (If not just to laugh out loud at me?)
Oh, I remember now! (She’s repetitive and senile, that one.) You’re here to find out the winner of the drawing!
Either that or you did a Google search for Michael Phelps of Michigan and you forgot how to spell “Michael” and so you typed in “Margaret” instead and then, well, Michigan is so much like Minnesota that ultimately you arrived…
Here.
Sorry. I am not a six-time Olympic gold medalist. I do tend to stay afloat when I go swimming, though. Does that win me any honors?
Enough! On to the drawing.
The winner of Taste of Home’s Grandma’s Favorites is…
Congratulations, Elizabeth! Please email me with your home address and I will have the cookbook shipped out straightaway.
I would also like to say a great big THANKS to everyone who left a comment and an intro. All 75 of my readers responded! What are the odds? Truly, though, I do thank you. It does my heart good to know that you’re out there. It does my heart good to know you care.
In closing, I would love to tell you all about my oldest son—how he’s a blessing and a help and the kindest of big brothers; how he’s a Boy Scout and an altar server and a really fast runner—but it would just turn into a bragfest and we can’t have that.
Let’s just say I’m blessed in him;
I’m blessed in Mary;
And I am blessed in you. Happy, Happy Feast of the Assumption, everyone! Are you planning a special meal, perhaps? Making a cake for Mary? We made this cake and ate it with friends after the vigil Mass last evening. (It was so good.) If we were in France, however, we would be really, really feasting today. Our spouses would have the day off and there’d be processions and wine and foie gras and sigh. We Americans can be so silly.
(We’re good at swimming and gymnastics, though.)
Anyway.
Let us all continue to look to heaven…and may we always do so with hope.

Yes, Happy Feast Day of the Assumption! My oldest (10 yrs.) was given the opportunity to serve for the Mass in our little parish today. 🙂 We don’t have a car available during the day right now, but a kind elderly woman in the parish (she’d kill me if she heard me say that) was sweet enough to pick us up and take us home. I’m feeling very blessed to have such a wonderful Church-family.
Blessings to you and your birthday boy this wonderful feast day,
~Jenny

Speaking of French processions… I was in Paris on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception back in ’98. My best friend and I were exploring the city when we stumbled upon a procession of a huge statue of Mary near Notre Dame Cathedral. People would open their doors and toss flowers down when the entourage was under their building. It was so powerful and so moving to see an open expression of the Catholic faith. It is nice to know they still do that.
Blessings to you and your son on his birthday.

A belated happy birthday to your son, Margaret. You said *all 75* readers of your blog entered the drawing. I read your blog, but I did not enter the drawing. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Conclusion: more than 75 people read your blog! Sounds like you had a wonderful and blessed day!

No, 75 of your 76 readers (or some such) responded…I was lazy. 🙂
