Cate’s First Communion Retreat

This is my First Communion treasure box. I got a white ribbon; I think it means purity. With the white ribbon there is also a story about a boy named Joe Henry and the title of it is “A Piece of White Ribbon.” And I got a key; they said it was the key to my heart so that only Jesus could go in.

There is a little figure of Jesus with a chalice and a host. There is a heart and when I get close to it, I can see that there are little cracks. Jesus’ heart is broken because of our sins. There is a little white box with a little picture of Jesus inside. It reminds me of Jesus in the host, and in the picture Jesus has a host in His hands. On the box is the word “Love.” And on another box is a picture of Jesus and St. Joseph and in this second box is my own rosary. The beads are made of wood that is white—actually, peach-colored—and they smell like a beautiful flower. There is a little booklet named “My First Holy Communion” and inside are little prayers. Finally, there is a coloring book of saints.

I liked the retreat that I made this morning. Mrs. P. [our church’s director of religious education] is nice. I am half nervous about tomorrow and half excited.

That is precious and amazing to me! That we get to share these awesome mysteries with our kids! Wow. My first is only 11 months old so first communion seems far away still, but what an awesome thing to look forward to. Thanks for sharing and prayers for all those first communicants!!

God bless you, Cate! May your day be filled with joy as you receive Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

May every Holy Communion thereafter bring you the same joy as your first!

    Dear Cate,

I have been praying for you this week as you prepare to receive Jesus for the first time in the most holy Sacrament of the Eucharist! He will enter your body and heart and find a beautiful young girl there, wanting to please Him.

    Blessings to you tomorrow.

Just beautiful. Good luck to your baby girl tomorrow. We are going to a friend’s first communion tomorrow morning. It makes me look forward to my oldest next year. What an exciting and glorious time. 🙂

Cate, I know God will bless you tomorrow when you receive your First Communion. May His love and grace fill you and stay with you throughout your life.
I teach First Communion in my parish and we had our first First Communion Mass this evening and will have another tomorrow. As I pray for my students, I’ll pray for you and your classmates too.
    Have a blessed day!

    Dear Cate,
I was a grown up when I received my first communion. It was the day before I was to be married. But my excitement and nervousness was just like yours! May your day be blessed with anticipation and fun. You are one lucky little girl to have such a wonderful family.
