Ten Years Ago Today

August 15, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Minnesota Me, Special Events 20 Comments

I was phoning my friend to ask the following:

“Um…I’m in labor. Is it okay if I skip Mass?”

My friend’s response:

“You goofball! Get to the hospital!”

The ubiquitous birthday breakfast request: monkey bread!

Happy, Happy Birthday to my handsome, helpful boy. You have never minded sharing your day with Our Blessed Mother, which is but one of the things I love about you.

There are many, many more reasons, of course, but at the risk of embarassing you (which is unlikely, but you know), I will stop now.

We love you!

PS. How does it feel to be two numbers? : )

Hello I am a friend of Jamie’s. From St. Stephen MN, one of your daily lurkers. I like to know there are other people like me out there. Sometimes it gets pretty lonely. All you Catholic Moms keep blogging – keeps us non-bloggers going!

    Wow. Happy 10th birthday!
That’s funny about going into labor and asking a friend if you could miss mass. Aslynn was born on a Sunday, and Paul’s mom said, “He’s not going to leave you at the hospital in labor and go to mass, is he?” Maybe if I wasn’t shouting at him that I thought I was dying… 🙂
Double digits. I can’t even imagine it. Happy, happy day to you!!

    Well, happy birthday!

Brenna was worried about me missing Mass when Penelope was born. I’m the only one who missed, though, as they were with friends who borrowed the van to get the whole lot of them church. David met them there and brought the kids back to meet the new baby afterwards. We think it’s THAT important, too! And our priest brought me communion after Mass in the morning, so I didn’t really miss out, either. 🙂

    Happy birthday to your son!

I am glad that I am not the only one who wondered about missing Mass when I was about to have a baby. As you may remember, my last little boy was born on the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God.

    Happy Birthday young man!

I have a wonderful memory of lying in the hospital bed with my new baby on the Feast of the Assumption, and listening to the Mass in the atrium below my window. It was so very peaceful! Love those Holy Day babies!

    Happy Birthday to the boy!

On a side note, I went to mass on Saturday evening just in case. Sure enough labor set in on Sunday morning.

    Awesome day for a birthday!

My son was born early on Ascension Day 2002. Similarly, I was worried about missing Mass on a holy day of obligation 😉

Well, the first time I tried to post, blogger rejected me. *sigh* So here we go again…

Firstly ~ Happy Birthday to your wonderful son, and congrats to you! I would say that “labor” is a special blessing, esp on a Holy Day relating to Our Lady, the MOTHER OF GOD and that there was a divine dispensation in order for you. 🙂

And secondly…to christine from St. Stephen MN.

There are lots of us here in MN. I’m not a Mom, but I know many bloggers who are.

Are you aware of this website:

    God bless!
