The World’s Largest Gingerbread House

January 3, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me 7 Comments

…made to look even larger by its proximity to my small children!

The exhibit, which included 15,000 pounds of gingerbread sheeting and more than a ton of candy, closes at 7 p.m. today.

Consequently I am thankful that we were given a wonderful excuse to make our way to the Mall of America (MOA to the trendy locals) the week before Christmas to take in this extraordinary construction; we were meeting my dear online friend Jamie for altogether too brief encounter!

It was so much fun to finally meet Jamie, her husband and darling little girl. And on their 10th Anniversary–what an honor!

One final surprise was the sweet little ladies inside the “cottage”–they introduced themselves as being from the “St. Therese Foundation” (a Minnesota-based senior housing provider that will receive all the donations from this exhibit) and gave all the children a candy cane. I think they were a little taken aback at my repeatedly exclaiming, “We just love St. Therese!”

Fun fun fun. And at 67 feet, far grander than any such confection we’ve attempted!

Oh my goodness, what a treat! Beautiful pictures! And I see from your banner you’ve had snow – hooray! (Send some eastward, would you please?) 🙂

Oh, Margaret, the honor was all mine to meet you and your beautiful children! My children were pretty excited to see Mama on the computer this morning! I have not developed my pictures yet, so they were excited to see the giant gingerbread house too! It was too brief of a meeting! Maybe sometime in the Spring or Summer we could meet at the zoo where your in-laws live? Have a great day Margaret!

Uh, that did not look good, not that your in-laws live in a zoo, but go to the zoo in your in-laws town. (not wanting to give the town away) It is a great place to go for the kids!! We go a couple times each Summer!

Jamie, you are too cute. Yes, let’s get together soon.

Kristen, thank you for your sweet words. I am sending them right back at you!

Dawn, I would love to send some snow your way but Minnesota’s been so stingy this year! I’m afraid I have to hang on to the little that we’ve got!

It’s nice to see both you and Jamie. I know her from comments as well. What a fun day for you all.
