Feeling Fancy?

January 9, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Reviews 6 Comments

Read Fancy Nancy!

My 6-year-old daughter was given this book for Christmas, and both she and her four-year-old sister just love it. Proof of their affection: they carry the book with them from room to room and know most of it by heart.

That is because Fancy Nancy speaks directly to the heart of a little girl’s fancies. This book is heavy on all things purple, pink & sequined and light on all things unadorned & boring. What’s more, it is a how-to guide for the uninitiated–as Nancy is a master in her field.

For example, did you know that “lace-trimmed socks do help [you] to play soccer better?” Or that “a princess is supposed to keep her tiara on?”

This is a tender, sweet and encouraging tale–one where Nancy learns that sometimes even princesses trip and lose their tiaras, and that a loving family will always see one through those humbling moments.

Fancy Nancy is written by Jane O’Connor and illustrated (in a bright fancy style) by Robin Preiss Glasser.

I have a feeling my 2 year old would like this one too…with 3 girls in a row, like you, I will have to get this book, thanks for the review!

Last week you mentioned curriculum, we are looking at Seton or Sonlight, and would love your input on this subject in a future post. I currently mix and match workbooks, etc, using a lot from CHC. Not to put any pressure on you or anything….

    Have a great day Margaret!

Ok, I just ordered it, only $9.83 at Wal-mart.com, Target sells it for $11 something. I’m in trouble, I am not supposed to order anything else!!

My Avila would love this. Have you ever read Eloise? The Christmas movie is one of my favorites. I love the spunkiness. Complements Christian feminism, in my view. 🙂 And they’re fun!

Oh, yes. We received this one too, but we already had TWO copies so we passed it on to someone else who is quite fancy.

    Margaret,
My girls and I love this book.
    It’s too cute.
I think I did a review of it awhile back. If I didn’t, I meant to. Probably still in my draft folder. LOL
