It happened again at Mass on Christmas—three Masses in a row, now.
I carry Camille on my hip when I go up for communion. She watches intently as the priest places the Eucharist on my tongue. Then, as we are walking back to our pew, she takes my face firmly in her hands and turns it toward her.
And she presses her lips against mine.
At no other time does she initiate tender kisses on my lips like this. It’s as if she knows she’s in His presence and wants to love Him.
No, it’s not “as if” she knows.
I really think she does.
That is so much sweeter than my 6 year old at age 2 screaming after I received the host, “But I want the Body of Christ too…..” Yes, I think they know.
Oh, that is SO sweet.
OOOOh, how sweet. What a treasure to remember. Yes they know.
That is so precious! Aaahh, to be little again!
That’s too sweet. I do think they know. My littlest always stares at Jesus intently.
How precious!
That is just too sweet! Margaret, treasure this memory!! How wonderful.
Wow!!!
My nieces. who are Byzantine Catholics, have been receiving since they were infants and until I myself had kids did I understand why. Not in our Roman tradition, but it’s a small t. 🙂
It’s amazing the intuition the little ones have. Thanks for sharing this.
When my 3 year old Christina loudly called out, “hi Jesus!” in adoration one day. Just as I was congratualting myself on having effectively communicated the Real Presence in the Eucharist, we left the chapel, and she again called out, “bye, Jesus!”waving enthusiastically,AS IF SHE SAW HIM THERE. I then said to myself, ‘she got that one on her own!’
How precious!
She is so beautiful, Margaret!
Oh, so precious! I’ve noticed my 7yo (who makes FHC in May) who holds my hand to and from Communion, looks right up at my face the whole way back to the pew. On occasion he also puts out his palm as if to say, Me too? 🙂
