Changes for Felicity

April 5, 2013 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Felicity, Growing Up, Irresistible Cuteness, Minnesota Me, My Girls 19 Comments

Take a look at the following photo and tell me if you can spot the differences:

Locks of Love VI

I’ll wait.

(Hint: It has nothing to do with the position of her bookmark.)

Yep, Felicity had over ten inches of her hair lopped off by Kelsey, my favorite stylist. Because this was a Locks of Love donation, Kelsey cut her hair for free. What a sweetie!

Locks of Love IV

(Kelsey also oohed & aahed over Baby Francis, who had a front row seat at the event, and for that I gave her a generous tip.)

Locks of Love III

Whoa! That’s a lot of hair lopped off!

Locks of Love VII

Fact is, Felicity has been wanting to get a bob for months but this long-hair-lovin’ momma dragged her feet. Plus it was like, one more appointment to make and errand to run and, yeah, well, I’ve got enough of those already. (Go ahead. Dare to call me lazy.)   Finally, though, after the 467th request, I  sighed and agreed to let her cut her hair. “It’s not  like you ever let me braid it,” I told her, and she pumped her fist in victory.

Felicity is fond of neither braids nor brushes. She eschews hair accoutrements of every kind.

Except for this head band.

Locks of Love V

‘Cause it’s so cute.

What do you think? Have you or your daughters ever done Locks of Love? (This will be our third donation. Blogged the first one here and the second one, here.)

I have done it twice, and I really like doing it…I've never dyed or otherwise messed with my hair (except for that one perm my mom made me get in 1991….we won't talk about that), so my stylist loves it when I donate because my hair is healthy and untouched. 🙂

I've done it three times in the last ten years. The most recent in December, just before Lucia was born. I still haven't got around to mailing my braid to Locks of Love. It went a little shorter than I like this time. I still can't put my hair in a bun and it's driving me nuts. I cut the girls hair short too at the same time. Sophie's hair was almost long enough to donate, but not quite. I do prefer long hair and braids but with a newborn I have much less time to wash it and brush it. And you know, it will grow back in no time.

I think I've done it 4 times? I've lost track! But a lot of the time it's out of cheapness & laziness – my hair gets long enough that I might as well wait to cut it because then I can get a free haircut 😛

This is how it goes for me, too, Rosie. 🙂 It's getting close to being long enough right now.

Love, love, love your daughter's new bob! So adorable. We've never done Locks of Love because my daughter is in love with her long hair. I'm the one who would like her to have a bob!

Gosh, so much generosity here. I feel badly because I've never done it, but in my defence I didn't know much about it until recently, and didn't know it could be done in my country. I'm so impressed by the young ladies who donate.

Liza got her hair cut in January… and the pony is still waiting for me to mail!! 🙁 I've got to get going on that, I know. That will be our first donation to Lock of Love. I'll have to take pics and make a post. I love the shorter length on her. And she, like Felicity, eschews hair accoutrements of every kind.

About Felicity's new 'do — absolutely adorable!!!

I'm so glad you wrote about this! Both of my daughters had their hair cut for "Locks for Love" a few weeks ago, but our new hairdresser doesn't know anything about it..where do we send the ponytails?
Of course I 'googled' it…and there are lots of hits…which one is valid?
    Way to go Felicity!

My girls all grow their hair until it reaches 10 inches and then we pony-tail it up and lop it off. It's a 2 year cycle before it's long enough to send in. Me….with pregnancy/breastfeeding my hair is just too wonky and I can't stand it that long, so I cut it before it gets to the 10 inch mark.

She looks adorable…and she knows it! You can tell in her smile! 🙂

My daughter did it last fall and I still have the pony tail here. I promised her I would mail it this weekend. My nephew just donated as well. Yes, my nephew. He could never stand having hair touch his face but grew it out as a tribute to a 3 yr old relative who recently died of cancer. His hair is buzzed now.

Felicity is ADORABLE with long or short hair!
