Pretty Happy Funny Real

July 28, 2011 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, PrettyFunnyHappyReal, The Faith, Toddler George 18 Comments

The We ♥ Mary Edition

Prologue: I groaned to open the blinds one morning and see that the neighbors were having a yard sale. “From their garage to my daughters’ bedroom,” I thought, but still allowed my three little girls to run over. “Yes, you may each pick out one Beanie Baby. No, you may not buy that gnome.” Later on in the day, I passed by the window and saw a statue of Mary for sale on their driveway. George and I were there in minutes, and now we have matching Marys in our front yard and back.

Mary Garden

So here it is! Our new Marian garden.

(Roses grow better when Mary’s around. It’s a horticultural certainty.)
{happy}

Mary Garden II

George sees a camera and what do you know? He smiles.

Nature? Nurture? A mom who blogs?

{funny}

Mary Garden IV

I asked George to give our Blessed Mother a kiss , and he planted a great big wet one on her lips.

Somehow I don’t think that she minded.

{real}

Mary Garden III

We love Our Lady. How could we not? We owe a ton to her intercession and oh, did you know that she once smiled at us?

It’s true, dear reader. She really did.

~ ♥ ~

Visit Leila and her daughters here to see today’s round-up, and may God bless your own prettyhappyfunnyreal life.

    That's beautiful. We have a fair number of Mary statues/images as well. But nothing like a life-size one!

    My birthday present this year from my husband was an outdoor statue of Mary. It was a splurge for us right now, but I love seeing it every time I come or go.

    Now, if only we could get our Mary garden to look half as beautiful as yours…. Somehow the weeds have taken over where the chipmunk holes haven't…. (Yes, apparently our chipmunk family loves Mary too. They've made a many-tunneled nest there.)

    That is a gorgeous garden statue of Mary!!! It's just perfect! I'm extremely picky about the face and kind of statue and hence we still have none! How embarrassing!

    I remember that she also said yes a time or two. Someday I'll find a beautiful garden statue of Mary. But I'm happy for you!

    What a great find! We have one statue of Mary in our (public) display garden, and the garden is at its very lovliest right in that area! Your little boy kissing Mother Mary? Truly beautiful!

    We were blessed to find a beautiful big stone statue of Mary at a garage sale many years ago now. My front garden in front of our house is always the best looking garden in the yard.
    Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos.

    Beautiful!!

    I love how my girls always gather around Mary to play. I know she blesses them–and the flowers too.

    How lovely! And what a smooch 🙂 I'm sure Our Lady didn't mind in the least. And to get a picture of it is priceless.

    Love your Mary garden! We only have a St. Francis…. As a PP said, I also fret over the face, etc and then –never buy one! My husband promises to surprise me with one someday!

    I got to see Mary today in a hospital ward, so it was extra lovely to read this post, to see the beautiful statue, to see such love for her. And I believe completely that she smiled. 🙂

    I love that statue! And your garden looks quite lovely, too! I never found a garden statue at a garage sale (but did find our small Bavarian Madonna on our mantle at one!) I yearned for one for our garden, but it was out of our price range. Then one day my b-i-l happened upon our Blessed Mother in someone's TRASH! He rescued her from their curb and brought her to my garden! She is now nestled in a perfect spot between our pines. I do need to look into "how-to's" on paint, as she is painted and needs some touch-up. But I love to look out the window and see her there.

    God Bless,
    Stacy

    oh do i love this {pfhr}!
    that george is something else! the one of him kissing mary will stay with me all the day long…and make me smile!
    i remember those days so fondly…my biggest boy used to do the sign of the cross with the water that collected in the cups from the dishwasher…i guess he thought because they were clean that the water was holy…not marian related, but still cute!

    ps. i think your school room would look scrumptious in caramel, red and blue! what warm colors!!! so definitely a thumbs up!
