Buster the Horse

January 13, 2011 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, Toddler George 14 Comments

This is George.

Buster II

Wait. Let me amend that.

This is George and his new rocking horse, Buster.

I’ll pull back a bit so you can see the whole thing:

Buster III

As you can see, it has been so long since the last time I posted that George is now five and will be leaving for kindergarten in the fall.

Except that we home-school.

And they don’t accept barefoot kids, anyway.

Buster was George’s Christmas gift—his “big ticket” item which, despite its being a “big ticket” item, didn’t cost us a single penny.

(Thank you, Kate!)

(You da best!)

Say “Cheese”, George!

Buster IV

Or not.

George is uncertain about his new pony. He feels called, shall we say, to exercise caution.

Buster VIII

George? It’s okay.

Buster V

So far they have an amicable relationship, George and Buster, but I can’t say that they’ve really bonded. In fact, for this photo shoot I had to tell George to actually rock.

So he did.

Click Me
Slide your mouse back and forth over this photo and you will
see all the rocking that he did. Whoa, George! Whoa, Buster!

I know what the problem is with George and Buster.

George has too vivid an imagination.

Buster VIII

George? It’s okay.

Well, we had no choice but to come up with a solution–one that suits our tentative toddler.

Buster I

George now has a bodyguard.

    That is great!
We had a rocking horse like this, too, and I LOVED it. So much that I think I broke it. 🙂

He'll get it. He's little mama. Really little. How 'bout a book with a rocky horse in it? My oldest had a board book with a rocking horse in it and every time we got to that page he would rock back and forth — and he never even had a real one!

Yep, he's little. He'll get it, and he'll make that thing go as fast as he can. It may take a couple of years, but you'll both get lots of enjoyment out of it. Haven't the older kids been demonstrating?

be glad for the moment of peaceful riding. Just one older sibling riding his horse and he'll be bouncing it off the floor. I had one child that hoped he could bounce it fast enough to fly away!

My sister and I got our rocking so hard it would move across the wood floor, making mamma very mad indeed! Go cowboy!

This was too funny, Margaret! Our daughters have had a rocking horse (but on the ground, so maybe not as scary) at my grandmother's house for a few years and it was just this Christmas (on the verge of turning two) that the little one finally started to really rock (and learned how to get on and off by herself). By the end of the week, she would rock Sam (as our first daughter named him) all the way across the hardwood living room floor. Give George time–he and Buster will surely become best buds!

Wow, that horse is in very good condition! Once George gets the hang of it, the horse will get a workout.

We had one while we were growing up. I reckon it was my older sister's (she always got the good stuff: the car, the real horse, the bikes, the clothes, and the new room added to the house).

I think I'm gonna forgive that bit of memory and move on so I keep my salty tears out of my coffee.

    Thanks for the giggles.

My brother's had a rocking horse when I was growing up. But guess who used to like to pretend that she was a cowgirl? : ) I loved that rocking horse! I things we rocked it so hard that the springs finally gave out one day.
