One of those days when…

November 4, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Just Me, Minnesota Me, Motherhood 9 Comments

…the oven has been preheated for over three hours, waiting for me to bake something. (You think I’m kidding but I’m not.) Still it sits, still it waits, still it wonders…where is she?

…the cap on the brand new bottle of baby wash breaks off (naturally) and the bottle of baby wash gets accidentally knocked over onto its side (like, last night?) and the thick foamy wash spills out—glub glub glub—all over the cupboard under the sink. “I knocked the bottle over, Momma!” said the offender. “I didn’t think that it would spill!”

Water Color IV

…I have stories galore and the photos to go with them, but no time—no time!—with which to do it because…

…I am cleaning the cupboard under the sink and baking—maybe, eventually, one never knows—a loaf or two of banana bread and also fielding off questions from my children like…

“Who thought of things, like, all the games and all the food?”

This child was quiet for a moment then said, “Maybe the factories.”

It’s questions like this that makes it all worthwhile.

(Almost.)

(The spilled baby wash I could do without.)

And how has your day in the trenches been?

Who gave the baby paint? You didn't have enough to clean up today? Silly mama. Go make some cinnamon toast for tea time.

    PS Love, love that baby.

He looks so blonde! What a cutie.

More of my day was eaten up by a.) making a birthday cake, b.) making the frosting and c.) frosting the cake and then cleaning up than I thought it would be.

Why do I always think it will go so quickly?? 🙂

Hope you have a quiet, baby-wash-free evening!

Yeah, we're not quite having a day of messes but I think we are all feeling lazy and out-of-sorts. At least I do. Maybe it's the dreariness?

My husband always tells me, "Hey, at least that's not poop" whenever I'm cleaning things that are messy but not gross. So, hey, not poop! Win!

Good luck on the bread. I'm similarly bound. Except not banana bread. I never can make banana bread because the ravening hordes eat the bananas.

    Margaret,
I've been reading your blog forever. I just had to laugh at this post, since I had just posted about MY day, over in my pocket of the internet.

    Well, since you asked…

I've been doing laundry – bedding, to be specific – all day.
My dear MIL was here the past two nights (dr. appointments that DH took took her to) as was our Grown Daughter with her BabyBoy b/c her hubby had an out-of-town business trip and she didn't want to be home alone.

Now my dear middle son will be home with his fiance this evening for the opener of MN firearms deer season this weekend.

    Everyone gets to shift beds…
MIL had the guest bedroom, now the fiance gets it.
Permanent Girls had the spare room (w/mattress on the floor) b/c their Oldest Sister and BabyBoy had their room… now they get their own bedroom back and middle son gets the spare room.

So today I stripped beds, washed several loads of bedding, and just finished making the beds. Now permanent girls will dust, vacuum, and do a final swish and tidy.

Okay, I'm off to get the oven pre-heated… I'm trying to convince myself that making Chocolate Chip Cookies is exactly what I want to do right now…

Hoping this evening is enjoyable and and relaxing for us all!

i worry when i DON'T have one of THOSE days…like something bad is going to happen because things are so GOOD…
yesterday i brushed my teeth with someone else's toothbrush and the baby spilled milk TWICE.
i agree with barb, have some cinnamon toast with tea and/or a good strong drink!

Good job keeping the baby in the high chair for this event! I am not always that smart-even at this point in my life!

Thanks for the reminder, though, that art supplies are meant to be used. With relish!
