On the Virtue of Silence

April 19, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Prayer, Spiritual Growth 7 Comments

Christ: “My child, there are times when you ought to keep to yourself and avoid conversation. There is no profit in unkind talk, rash talk, or indecent talk. What is the good of wasting time with idle disputes or with boasting?

True, there are times when light conversation brings needed relief and necessary recreation, but talk which does not help the speaker or the listener to live a better life is a precious waste of time, time which will never return.

Think before you speak, and you will never regret your words.”

I just love My Daily Bread. It seems that I can always gain something from just opening it up to any random page.

There are two others in that series I think, My Daily Life and My Way of Life or something similar. I love those too with their little nuggets of wisdom to ponder.

Lovely and a good reminder for a woman of (too) many words like myself. Blessings!

And to aspire to live a tranquil life, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your (own) hands,
as we instructed you, that you may conduct yourselves properly toward outsiders.

Hmmmm. If I get my 12-year-old son to sit down and read this, I wonder if he'll listen.
He doesn't like to hear me say these things, but maybe he'll take it from you. *grin*
    Appreciate these good words today!
