Me: Do you want to read a book?

Her: No.

Me: Do you want to do a puzzle?

Her: No.

Me: Do you want to play outside?

Her: No. Can I play PBS Kids on the computer?

Me: No.

Her: [silence]

Me: Do you want to play with dish soap in a shallow pan?

Her: Yes! Yes! Yes!

Bubbles II

I think, given the general mood of the average Minnesotan right now, it was purely by chance that I proposed an acceptable activity to my 5-year-old daughter.

Bubbles IV

We are ever so going stir crazy.

Thank you, God, for dish soap and shallow pans.

Bubbles I

Thank you, God, for straws.

Bubbles V

Thank you, God, for Seton’s Kindergarten Science book, which is where I first found this activity many [winter] moons ago.

~ Recipe ~

8 tablespoons dish soap (or to taste)
1 quart water
1 straw
1 shallow pan
1 bath towel (optional but recommended)

Have fun. Be happy. Hold tight ‘til spring.
