[And one that’s true, to boot.]
Once upon a time, my dear older sister was living on a farm in North Dakota and teaching CCD once a week at the local church. (She’s still living in North Dakota, by the way, but that’s neither here nor there.)
One crisp Autumn evening, she grabbed her coat and headed out. A half an hour later, the phone rang and my sister’s husband answered it.
It was the Director of Religious Education, calling to ask where my sister was. “I hope she’s okay…” the DRE said, “because it’s not like Yvonne to not call if she won’t be here.”
Bill was flabbergasted, of course. He hung up quickly and went to the door in haste…
…where he found my sister, not saying a word, and seemingly in shock.
She had gotten into a car accident, you see. Her car had spun off the slippery gravel and gone into a field where it was totaled—completely totaled, as in, it’s a miracle she survived.
The story gets better, however.
How did Yvonne get home so soon? Her car was at least a mile away. And how is it that, though the field she drove into had been recently burned, her light-colored jacket had not a mark on it and her shoes were in perfect condition?
We don’t really know.
And yet, we do.
AMDG,
PS. I would like to thank you for all your well wishes. They have made this cold & dreary Minnesota day…much less so.
Thank you again!
