Just for Fun

January 15, 2009 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Growing Up, Minnesota Me 26 Comments

I was singing this at lunch today while my children sat and blinked at me.

Do you remember this little cutie pie? Or am I just really, really old?

I love that song and that bologna!!

I sing it for my kiddos, now I can show them the commercial!!

I only like bologna (the yellow package with red words, not any other kind, not light, or beef or any other) with a slice of that pre-wrapped cheese stuff and mayo on bread, when I’m not pregnant, that is.

I don’t remember that boy specifically, but I do remember the song. Now I’m going to have it in my head for the rest of the day!
My kids like when I sing the Toys R’ Us song. I don’t know if they still have the same one, but they’d never heard it. I was singing something else to my two year old one day and he quietly whispered, “sing the toys r’us song”.

Oh…and my kids think I am crazy like that all the time! I had to stop saying, “Don’t make me get the flying monkeys!” because they never knew what I meant. (They haven’t seen the Wizard of Oz yet.)

PS. I just overheard Angela say, “We’re not Peppers.”

Only the way she says it, it went “We’re not ‘Pepp-ahs.'”

I didn’t even have click the play arrow to know what he was singing — I remember that face. Does that mean you were eating B-O-L-O-G-N-A?

I was a senior in high school when “I’m a Pepper” was out. Way to make me feel old!

I am in the oldster club also. I can still sing the Flinstones, Jetsons, Gilligans Island and The Brady Bunch…my kids blink and blink.

    The B O L O G N A is still a classic!

    Thanks for the trip.

I LOVED the band-aid song!!! I just found this and laughed out a lung at the Vicks jingle (having a cold does that to you)!

I looked for the band-aid song on You-Tube but could only find a couple of lame rip-offs.

Didn’t know that Barry Manilow wrote it, either.

I remember that song, and I think the commercial rings a bell. I find it amazing what is stored in my head, inplace of the things I wish I could remember!

One of my favorite oldies is this one from Sesame Street:

And, I love that Toys ‘R Us song:

But I gotta be honest, I was barely born when this Dr. Pepper song you’re writing about came to life…

I just realized what I sing to my kids is not the BOLOGNA song, but

“I wish I were an oscar mayer weiner – then everybody’d be in love with me …”

Okay, here come all those flashbacks! Thanks for the memories!

My husband and I can still recite the dialogue to the Life cereal commercial:

    What’s that?
Some cereal. It’s supposed to be good for you.
    ‘Dyou try it?
I’m not gonna try it–you try it.
    Let’s get Mikey!
He won’t eat it, he hates everything.
    –pause–
    He likes it! Hey, Mikey!

We’ll even say, “some cereal” as a disparaging, dismissive comment sometimes, which of course our kids don’t get AT ALL.

Thanks for the laughs. I’ll go now to do what needs to be done, with less grumpiness…

Without EVEN watching the video, I knew exactly what the song was! I used to love bologna, but unfortunately I can’t eat it anymore!

What about the coke one? “I want to teach the world to sing” and everyone was in a big circle!

I didn’t even have to click “Play” – the song immediately started in my head when I saw the kid on the pier!!

My hubby and I were singing this the other day when we were making sandwiches – the boys looked at us like we had lobsters crawling out our ears… 🙂

I didn’t have to play that video either. The cute face and mop of curly hair brought it right back.

Speaking of Dr. Pepper, One of those commercials was filmed at my college. It was filmed one day in the spring and I remember going ga ga over the guy who used to do the dance. Remember him doing a hop skip type thing down some steps? Wagner College was the place they filmed it!
