In defense of the tongue-in-cheek title of my last post, I do not think I’m a bad mother.
I think I’m a darn good mother, actually, though flawed. Very flawed.
Is it my pride that makes me think I’m a darn good mommy? Or perhaps my vanity?
No. Rather, it is my faith in the assistance of grace; my tremendous love of the people to whom I’ve been entrusted (and my desire to do right by them); and it is my patron saint Margaret Mary.
Huh?
I can hear the question marks all the way over here as I stand at my keyboard.
Today is the feast of St. Margaret Mary. Consequently it’s my name day! (And the day after my daughter’s name day, by the way. My daughters think this is kind of neat.)
My mother picked my name out. (Is that glaringly obvious?) She had a devotion to the Sacred Heart and as such, to the little French saint to whom it had been revealed.
And me, I just reap the graces.
Because, you see, I have claimed the 12 promises of the Sacred Heart as my own. I have made the 9 First Fridays, and I have seen the changes in my family due to what could only be the effects of grace. I am thankful, humbled and amazed by what God is doing in our families…
…and yet, the battle isn’t over & the war is far from won. My children pray nightly for their beloved two aunties who are fighting; for an uncle who’s just so sad; and for a cousin who, for all her beauty and grace and gifts as a single mother, recently tried to take her own life.
You see why I’ve adopted my mother’s devotion. You see why I need to believe in the love—the powerful, transforming, so-much-bigger-than-we-are love—of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I’ve been meaning to pop over here and wish you a happy feast day! But, then wasn’t sure if it was this Margaret you had chosen as your name saint (I chose St. Margaret Clitherow)
Anyhow… Happy Feast Day dear friend, hope it was peace-filled!
Blessings…

I, too, have a devotion to the Sacred Heart. Aren’t those promises amazing? We are trying to decide if we should put our Sacred Heart statue (it’s rather large) on our fireplace mantle or put our Divine Mercy picture up there, maybe this is a sign?
Happy Feast day!!

I also wanted to tell you that my boys were sitting on my lap while I was checking blogs today and they saw your page header with your daughter and said, “Hey! There’s Aslynn on the computer.” Maybe my daughter has a twin? 😉
